Next mountain stage and another short one (89km): it's all-flat until the again not too steep, but more challenging climb up "Union Valley". 20km in total, this summit finish looks definitely tougher than yesterday's..
..where Eastman slipped back into yellow and should be considered the favorite again. Kashechkin though may counter today, while the remaining GC-contenders had less to show yesteday.
A 2-men-breakaway is quickly built: Mach and Davila (+ 29'32" in the GC) will hope for the peloton to take things easy today..
A moment of shock for Doi (3rd in GC), who punctured just when the peloton would keep up a higher pace on the chase!
His teammates bring him back just a few moments later, we now have 41km to go..
And apparently, the Japanese didn't suffer too big time, as he's one of several riders attacking the peloton early in today's finishing climb (16km remaining):
Montenegro
Pozzo went first, followed by
Di Gregorio
Kashechkin!
Doi
Stetina/Eastman as well as
Txurruka
Rohregger
Shimizu
Dyball
make for some early action here! Kashechkin obviously willing to put pressure on Eastman, in a similar fashion like the US boy did yesterday..
The less steep slopes early into the climb though didn't really lead to major gaps and so those attackers are all back together at the 10km-mark and the early escapees being caught in the meantime.
And here's where Eastman launches another move, followed by Pozzo and Montenegro! Eastman, like yesterday, going for a crucial early move?
Definitely another strong move, as the GC-leader, accompanied by only Pozzo, opened up a notable gap on the following groups soon!
8km to go: Eastman and Pozzo (9th in GC) with a nice advantage, while Eastman keeps his pace high!
Montenegro with a strong showing so far, with just Rohregger (7th in GC) hanging on and Kashechkin finiding himself 1 minute down on Eastman in this 17-men-group!
Eastman dropped Pozzo with another acceleration to establish a 43"-gap quickly!
6km before finish, Kashechkin goes for his second attack today to soon catch up to the chasing three riders..
4km.. Eastman now 50" ahead of Kashechkin/Pozzo, while Montenegro and Rohregger are still holding on to a 58"-gap on the 14-men-group with other GC-contenders!
2.5km... Kashechkin drops Pozzo to at least limit the damage against solo-leading Eastman, who's still a minute ahead though..
Eastman makes it two in a row and underlines his high ambitions to keep yellow til the end now! A dominating win today..
+ 55" Kashechkin, who couldn't counter another strong kick by Eastman today!
+ 2'00" Montenegro, Rohregger and Pozzo and those three will gain valuable time on other GC-contenders that way!
+ 2'56" Agudelo
+ 3'18" for a 13-men-group with Dyball, Rodas/Di Gregorio, Stetina, Doi, Vasquez and Txurruka
+ 4'48" Georgiev, who suffered in the end to lose his Top-10-spot today..
So some major changes in the GC today: while Eastman grows his lead to 1'42" on Kashechkin, we have a new 3rd with Rohregger (+ 6.44) and also Pozzo moving up to 4th (7.15) ahead of Doi (7.20)!
Rodas, Stetina, Di Gregorio, Dyball and Agudelo to round up the Top-10 for now, while Georgiev dropped to 13th place. Vasquez (17th) continues to climb in the GC, though still facing a notable gap on the Top-14 at least. Montenegro (15th) with a great improvement, of course.
