Herald Sun Tour - Stage 6
The Rider
i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/HeraldSunTour6_zps6d92536a.png

The final stage. A sprint finish? Or will that climb so close to the finish favour a break?

i87.photobucket.com/albums/k124/therider7/c1_zpsf9922c88.jpg

The 6 man break: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Imhof, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.png Matteau, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Wohler, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/amx.png Busche, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Mortenson & i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Liu

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c2_zps6bc4e2ef.jpg
20 KM to go: Break @ 1'30.

With i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Alpina - Avianca and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png ONCE-Eroski Cycling Team setting pace the peloton can easily make the gap to the break with the final climb approaching.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c3_zpsa1d9aca7.jpg
10 KM to go: Break @ 1'20.

With the same teams on the front, once we hit the climb, no inroads are made into the break's advantage.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c4_zps8ca36101.jpg

Indeed the gap to the breakaway starts to grow outwards as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/amx.png Busche sets a real strong tempo. One by one .....

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c5_zps8dbb104e.jpg

... i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/amx.png Busche drops the rest of the break. He would summit the final climb first, ending any hope of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Wohler taking the KOM jersey here.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c6_zps801fe524.jpg

Surely it is plain sailing for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/amx.png Busche. With under 10 KM to go, and a descent all the way to the finish, he has over 1'40 over the peloton.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.png Matteau is the next over the top, '20 behind, but losing time on the American.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c7_zps1985230a.jpg

The peloton, pretty much all together, traverse the final climb knowing only minor positions are up for grabs today. This doesn't stop i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Haas and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Sarabia attacking. Though to no avail.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c8_zps72482d4c.jpg

One of the stars of this race, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Makino, would also try his luck on the descent as only two riders survive from the break. Again, nothing doing.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c9_zps3141810f.jpg

Victory for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/amx.png Busche on the final stage of the Herald Sun Tour. He really showed his prowess on the final hill today, the domestiques of the sprinter teams didn't have an answer. All three pro-conti teams have had a decent outing here, with two taking home a stage victory.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c10_zps1102c90b.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.png Matteau would be the other breakaway rider to hold off the peloton today, coming home for a respectable second place.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/c11_zpsfe4b57da.jpg

Securing the points jersey, in style, it is a comfortable third place from i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/evo.png Geschke as he wins his second bunch sprint here. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Forero was the closest challenger, but a ways back in the end, as the final hill took its toll on many of the quick men.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Mendes wins the Herald Sun Tour, the GC much unchanged on the final stage.
