Deutschland Tour - Stage 4

i.imgur.com/b7nbtR3.jpg

After a surprising victory for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bec.png Sagan yesterday we have another hilly stage awaiting. After showing some serious strength yesterday it's safe to say i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wik.png Phinney is back with the favourites again. Another thing that has changed is the weather, as it has cleared up now and there's no large chance of rain anymore.

Today riders are more eager to attack, and from the start we immediately have a group of 5 breaking away: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bpv.png Cornu, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gde.png Diggle, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pok.png Nolf, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pnd.png Rosch and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/btc.png Camier. They get pulled back quickly though.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0064.jpg

Eventually we get a break of the day consisting of 4 riders: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bpv.png Cornu, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gde.png Diggle, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lap.png Bauer. With the German being only 1m38 behind in the GC the pack will surely be careful with this group.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0065.jpg

The image in the pack is very much like yesterday, as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ing.png ING - Pro Cycling Team is protecting Sicard's yellow jersey.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0066.jpg

At the first sprint only i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz is interested in the available seconds. Meanwhile, the gap to the pack has grown to 6m45 with 108km to go.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0067.jpg

We have the same scenario at the second sprint, about 25km further. The lead has shrunk a bit though, to just over 6 minutes.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0068.jpg

Next up, at the hill (cat.3) we actually see a battle. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz beats i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lap.png Bauer at the summit. The gap has decreased to about 5m30.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0069.jpg

Just like yesterday i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ing.png ING - Pro Cycling Team has decided not to do all relays. Right now mainly i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Vesuvio - Accumalux and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pnd.png Pendleton's taking relays and bringing back the break.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0070.jpg

30kms to go, break 3 minutes ahead, and some spectacle in the peloton: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck is off, and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pok.png Ginanni follows.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0071.jpg

Up front i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz takes the third and final intermediate sprint as well. The 4 leaders just have the climb and descent to do now.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0072.jpg

Just before the sprint i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pok.png Ginanni are already caught again by the high pace of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pro.png Project 1t4i.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0073.jpg

The break hits the foot of the climb, 21km from the line, with a gap of 2m17. If they can hang on until the summit we might see these 4 fighting it out at the line.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0074.jpg

As soon as the pack hits the slope as well it becomes apparent some riders don't want to let that happen. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck has recovered well and attacks. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pnd.png Martin follows him. The two quickly gain time and after 1.8km climbing and 1.7km climbing to go they have already built up a gap of no less than 35 seconds.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0075.jpg

While the duo almost catches the break, the favourites decide to take matters into their own hands. Attacks come from i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wik.png Phinney, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ing.png Sicard, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bampo.png Keinath, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pok.png Ginanni, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bpv.png Van den Broeck, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pro.png Gesink, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bec.png Velits and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcs.png Kunshin. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/prp.png Fothen seems to be the main man missing out.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0076.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck has made another effort and before the summit he has overtaken everyone ahead of him. The gaps are however not too large and a good descender should be able to close the gaps.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0077.jpg

Further back i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/prp.png Fothen and further ahead i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vwm.png Sella have left the pack behind as well. They will however have a lot of catching up to do if they want to reach the leaders.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0078.jpg

With 10km to go i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck has even increased the gap to the nearest chasers, but i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pro.png Gesink had a very strong downhill and has made up a lot of time.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0079.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck is not intending to stop though. With 5km to go he has increased his gap to 30 seconds on the nearest chasers and 40 to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pro.png Gesink. We now have the following situation:
1:i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck
+32s i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pnd.png Martin, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gde.png Diggle, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bpv.png Cornu

i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0080.jpg

With just under 5km to go group 2, 3 and 4 merge and for some reason stop chasing! The gap to the solo leader is now growing, and not by a little!
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0081.jpg

With 3 kilometers to go i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck is still powering on and his lead is now a whopping 1m20, more than enough to take virtual yellow!
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0082.jpg

It's getting worse and worse for the chasers now, and even previous groups 5 and 6 have been allowed to catch up, making this group consist of 11 riders now!
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0083.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck keeps on gaining and with 1.5km to go his lead hits the two minute gap!
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0084.jpg

1km to go now for the rider from Luxembourg. He can smell the victory already and he should be right!
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0085.jpg

The chasing group is now sprinting to close the gap, but don't be surprised if they even get the same time as the pack, which is now coming closer and closer.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0086.jpg

But of course, this is all for the second place, as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vsa.png Schleck takes a well deserved victory here!
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0087.jpg

With 1km to go the chase and the pack have merged, and the sprint for second place seems like a battle between i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wik.png Phinney and, surprisingly, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gde.png Diggle.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0088.jpg

Quite inevitably i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gde.png Diggle collapses though, but yesterday's winner i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bec.png Sagan is reaching the front quickly now!
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0089.jpg

With 200 meters to go he reaches place two, and probably won't give it away.
i40.photobucket.com/albums/e206/Selwink1/MG%20Reports/PCM0090.jpg

And indeed, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bec.png Sagan takes second here, but it's a whopping 1m30 behind today's winner, who will take over the yellow.i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wik.png Phinney comes 3rd. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gde.png Diggle hangs on for 4th, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ing.png Sicard, who will lose yellow, comes 5th.
