The race concludes with the traditional flat stage finishing on a circuit through Vienna: 138km in total, it's an almost pan-flat stage made for the sprinters.
Grillo with two stage-wins so far, so of course the man to beat when it comes down to another mass sprint today. Giaux was strong in both sprints, too. Davis, Mezgec or Aberasturi as maybe the most promising contenders again.
A 4-men-breakaway will hope for the sprinter-teams to struggle here: Herklotz, Navarro, Honkisz and Njoroge go clear early.
Navarro (+ 17.03) as best-placed in the GC and therefore no threat. Interesting fact though: Barcardi and Puma putting a rider into this group and so putting some pressure on other teams with promising sprinters!
Those teams would be AMEX, Compal and Karcher. And just as in the previous flat stages, they do look in control so far, going for a high pace to narrow the gap back to 2 minutes with still 36km to go.
The riders already entered the circuit through Vienna, while we also notice strong crosswinds (33kmh), which may add some spice today..
10km before finish, the early escapees hold on to 30"-gap and keep fighting to hold off the strong pacing peloton.. but we have more important news, GC-wise:
Nazaret obviously took too less care of good positioning and finds himself being dropped by the bunch! The 6th in GC is down by already 2'30" at this point, where the field went into pieces (74 riders remaining in the leading peloton)!
This is horrible news for Nazaret, who is likely to lose minutes today!
5km before finish and the breakaway is finally reeled in by the peloton, which continues to drop more riders:
65 riders remain in this leading bunch, where Compal and Karcher worked hard to pull the escapees back right in time.. will we see more notable names like Nazaret beind dropped?
We do, even though no more Top-10-rider this time: Dyachenko (12th in GC) couldn't follow his own team's pace and is dropped like Agudelo (17th), Ndbri (15th), Eibegger (19th)! Those ain't as far behind as Nazaret, but are likely to lose some time as well..
..but now for the sprint: Keough/Grillo and Park/Nelson lead the bunch into the final 2.4km, followed by Giaux and Davis on first hand..
Keough/Grillo again going strong as they did two days ago, while Davis caught up to Grillo a few moments later!
Nelson tries to hang on, just like Park and Giaux..
Grillo kicks under the kite, just like he did two days ago.. Davis right behind, as this duo seems to dominate today.
Keough still in between those two and Giaux, Compal's struggling duo and Coquard..
Third one for Grillo? Or first for Davis?
The latter moves forward for a narrow lead with the line approaching..
..and for the win: Davis takes out the final stage here, as Grillo misses out on his third victory quite close. It's another strong performance by him and Keough though, as the US boy finishes 3rd and Grillo is likely to grab the green jersey, too!
And now for those dropped groups, where we see some GC-riders losing minutes today:
+ 2'01" for a group with Dyachenki, Ndbri, Agudelo and Eibegger as the most notable names! Those may drop two or three spots in the GC, but at least finished ahead of the most notable GC-contender being dropped today..
+ 4'51" for group Nazaret! What a horrible final stage for the Brazilian, who took out the first stage here: it began with a bang and ended with another. He will for sure drop significally today..
Opposing to Abal, who avoided any drama and takes out the Osterreich Rundfahrt 2015! Huge win for his team and it's fight for promotion. Marquez runner-up ahead of Nepomnyachsniy.
A strong tour for Mobil, too: Pedraza (4th) and Torres (9th) with very good performances here. Intxausti as 5th ahead of Augustyn, Cano and Ji. The latter three moving one spot up thanks to Nazaret dropping down to 16th today!
Nerz therefore completes the Top-10 ahead of Sano and local hero Rohregger.. Gerdemann 13th ahead of Dyachenko, who dropped a few places as well.
Grillo indeed slipts into green on this final day: 78pts in the end. Well deserved after his strong performances in all three flat stages.
Local favorite Schrangl couldn't repeat his stage-win and overall Top-10 from last year, but secured himself a nice polka dot. Magna hadn't the best race eventually, but this may help to get over it, in a way.
