Hello and welcome to the new and improved homepage for Team Colombia, the only Pro Continental team from South America. Here at Team Colombia we aim to be the best and to show the world that Colombia is proving to be one of the best cycling nations in the world.
For the 2014 season we have tried to adopt a new ethos here at the team, and to do that we have had to say goodbye to some of our stars (Atapuma to Tinkoff and Duarte to Movistar) and some of our old timers (Duque to Caja). This has been met with mixed reactions from the outside world, with many believing we have turned our back on our roots and are trying to be something we aren't. However this is untrue as even though we may have lost 3 Colombian riders we have gained a wide range of talent including some Colombian riders, meaning that we have only 1 Colombian Rider less than last year. (pending)
So why do people say this, Team Manager Joseph Armstrong said, " The World of professional cycling is worried that we will become a different team to the small close nit group of riders, but they should worry more about themselves. We are a force to be reckoned with and as our team grows stronger we maintain our roots in the Colombian cycling heritage. Our riders are some of the brightest talents in the world, and we hope to help them develop this talent so they can be the best that they can be."
This heritage is what keeps this team moving forward, we look back at the past with great pride, but we know that to move up the ranks we have to be more than just a small team of the best Colombian riders. Our aim for next year of becoming the first Colombian World Tour team is a big goal, but one we believe we can achieve as our team grows stronger by the day, and with young talents like Christian Muriel, Esteban Chaves and Jeffry Romero the Colombian flame will burn as bright as ever, however it will now burn along side the flame of Europe with riders like Soren Berg, Mario Guido and Gorka Nieve adding strengthen in depth to a team that is ready to fight for promotion.
We hope that 2014 can be the year of Team Colombia, the year where we win and we win big with our fountain of Youth guided by experienced riders to become the greatest riders in the world, and you may think this sounds like a dream, but this is a dream. A dream of Team Colombia becoming the world's number 1 cycling team, and proving to everyone that the little nation of Colombia is the true king of cycling.

Team Colombia would like to announce that it has finalized its roster for next year, after securing its final two signings in the Free Agent bidding. It brings a conclusion to an eventful and hopefully good transfer season for the team, after claims of tax evasion and insufficient funds run rife through the peloton. However the team has got to the other side of the transfer market with a team stronger than ever, and with its new full roster of riders shows its aim for promotion next year.
Team Manager Joe Armstrong said, "We knoew that it is unlijkely that we get promoted at the end of the year, but this isn't just a one year project its a future project where we hope that we can move forward and evolve as a team, but still maintain a core of Colombian riders." The new team is believed to maintain the same amount of Colombian riders as last year, however it has backed them up with riders of other nationalities to soldify the talent on offer. Armstrong said, "We have a very young team with a lot of raw talent, and hopefully the older riders will be able to help those riders use their talents in terms of success, we have said all along that this team is about developing the riders of the future and this years roster will show this. However we have brought in a lot of great characters, which was one of our main aims as we want the team to have a fun atmosphere as that is the atmosphere that helps people win we saw that last year, and now we have increased the scale of the fun, so hopefully we will increase our win rate.
The team presentation will come in the coming days, however we ask our 2014 custom riders to introduce themselves to the Team Colombia fans and to let them get to know you a bit better.

Riding myself to sixth place at the U23 World Championship Road Race in Tuscany, Italy
It's nice to ride for the trade team of my home nation after I had a decent time at French WT team AG2R. I mainly worked in a support role for one of the French riders but sometimes my friend Betancur. I finished inside the top 25 of general classification at the Tour de France however and at Colombia I will be hoping to ride another grand tour but this time as a leader.
The departure of Duarte was a surprise but given the influx of Europeans joining the team maybe I shouldn't have been. This does leave it to me to step up and fill his place and I do aim to do so. I've been training hard to be an accomplished climber not only in the mountains but over the hills also, I have a powerful kick and a fast finish so maybe the hilly classics can suit me just as well as the high mountains.
I hope to be racing in Tour de San Luis in January to kick off the season but there are still many things that need to be worked out and finalized. I hope to see everyone racing very soon!

-Gorka Nieve Etxepare-
Orange love, mountain moustaches & the sunny spot
19 years old | Climber | Basque Country |
-Profile-
Gorka Nieve looks like his distant cousin Mikel Nieve except for a big, freaking moustache. Nicknamed The Moustache, This guy lives and breathes the basque country more than anyone. However, due to the set-backs he couldn’t resign with the Euskadi continental Team Orbea Cycling. However, be aware, this guy will jump at the first opportunitiy to sign with Euskaltel – Euskadi that presents itself to him. He now looks for a Pro Continental Team where he can prove himself, be of domestique duties and improve on his career, until one day he can sign with the big orange boys.
He was born and raised in San Sebastian. When he didn’t impress chicks at the beach with his half-tanned body, he spent most of his time on the bicycle. Inspired by the likes of Roberto Laiseka, Iban Mayo, Joseba Beloki and his distant cousin Mikel Nieve, he joined one of the youth teams and was then spotted by Orbea Cycling Team. Naturally he is interested in fighting and conquering any mountain that is ahead of him. Though he made decent appearances, Gorka Nieve wants to see other cultures too and thus is eager to sign for the time being with any forgein team that wants him. He packs his bags for the adventure of the Pro Cycling EPIC Circuit. Though with the hopes that one day he can return to the place he belongs too.
Season 2013
In his debut season, Gorka Nieve has enjoyed riding for World Tour Orica GreenEdge. Though mostly bound to domestique duties, Gorka Nieve managed to attract some attention to his talents at the Tour of Austria. This secured him a deal for next year at Team Colombia. He was also several times featured in the Basque Racing Series.
A late peak performance was spotted in Asia. First, he enjoyed some quality time in breakaways at the Tour of Beijing, then going on a large, solo-run at the Japan Cup, riding his guts out for the rocking Oger one last time.
What to expect of 2014?
Nieve is still only 19 years and fit for development. He will definitely want to get better in terms of climbing and thinks he has found the right team to do it this year. The Pro Continental Level may allow him to even score some worthwhile results in hilly and mountaineous races.
For Gorka Nieve, this year will be all about exposure and getting the name out there. But more importantly, it's about growing as a rider and helping Team Colombia, his new host, to some great results.

Ciao Colombia! It's a me, Mario! I already wanted to introduce myself for to you, as I'll be riding for the team this year. I'm a 19 year old Italian sprinter, with a few top 10 results so far, but you may know me best from my breakaway in Milan - San Remo this year.
Attacking
Attacking some more
I also had my first win at the end of the year, although it was in a smaller race, the Tour of Hainan. I got a few more good results, but not a second stage win. Still, it was the best race of my season, and I hope to continue tihs this year.
I had a great first year with MTN Qhubeka, but it felt it was better to find a new team. It's great to ride with a superstar like Gerald Ciolek, but we are targetting the same races. After a year of being a leadout, I think I should get my own chances in my prefered races. I did learn a lot from him, but we would clash in the future over leadership.
So why Colombia? It's a big change I know, but Colombia is a team that has a connection with Italy, which was very important to me. I got contacted by the manager who said he believed in me as main sprinter for next year, and since I received no counter offer from MTN, I decided to sign here. It will be weird to ride here between those Colombian climbers, but it gives me leadership in the sprints.
For the next year I have a few goals, Milan - San Remo being the biggest one. I know I won't win it, but I want to be there when the sprint starts. The rest of the schedule, I still need to discuss it with my manager, I hope to bring you news on that soon!
~ Mario
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Hi boss, I know you're busy at the moment but I have trained really well in the last couple of weeks and would like to start my racing in South American so I would like to race the:
Tour de San Luis
Also I think it would be beneficial to apply for a grand tour early so we can plan our schedule appropriately for preparation. Preferably I would like to race either the:
Giro d'Italia
Vuelta a Espana
Otherwise I will leave the rest of program to you.

To Christian,
Thats great news we were hoping you would want to ride San Luis as we know that you have been training hard and we hope that you can start the season off with a win, as for the Grand Tours if we are accepted then you will definitely be in them, to be honest I think the Giro is the most likely that we ride as we have strong links to Italy, we aim to ride all 3 Grand Tours but we will have to see what happens
Thanks and Good Luck

Hello
I've been very inactive lately and that's because an injury has been bothering me for a long time. I'm now fully fit and ready for the next season, which I think will be quite spectacular for us. I couldn't help myself ignoring the discussion around a possible Grand Tour, which is something I would also like to discuss.
I've already said that I would help out the sprinters mostly and with Mario Guido being from Italy, the Giro is probably our best bet for a GT. I also said I would like to help Mario getting some good results, so if he was to participate in the Giro I would like to follow too.
I know that we're still young. but with so many prospect that are able to grow pretty fast, I feel this might not be a bad idea, but I will leave that to your judgement.

Hi,it is me again.
I have been training on the hills of Belgium and I look almost fit.
About the GT thingy I wouldn't prefer to ride a GT and maybe we have a chance for Paris-Nice.Because it's route is hilly this year and I might do good.I said my other preferences to you, especially the Ardennes classics.
I hope to do a good neo-pro season.
Bye

Hello Boss
To be fair the mood has been really weird since I got back and I wondered if it was just me, but it came to a surprise when some of our riders replied that they were confused. I didn't get an clear answer, but I do know something that might increase the morale.
Most of our rivals have given out their schedules and it's been frustrating for me, not knowing where my season will start and what my main goals will be. It's only a few weeks till Tour of Gabon start and we would like to get some instructions, so we can clarify our goals and be prepared for the tasks ahead.

As we are yet to receive our calender from the UCI we aren't sure what races we will be taking part in, once we receive that then we will be able to organize race planning and other things
