Stage 1 of the Tour d'Indonesia is the first of two hill stages, albeit the easier one.
A different breakaway was clear at the first two climbs, but in them both times - and winning both climbs was Sirironnachai.
The break formed with the Thai rider plus Orbe, Dearden and eventually Quintana.
Quintana and Orbe drop the other 2 on the 3rd climb, while Orbe goes on alone on the final climb to secure a joint KoM lead with Sirironnachai who by then had been caught by the peloton.
#1 #2 #3 #4 Total Sirironnachai5 5 1 11 Orbe3 3 5 11 Quintana5 3 8 Feng3 1 4 Salleh1 1 Dearden1 1
Orbe tried to stay clear on his own, but was chased down by two new attackers Losada and Di Gregorio.
The problem for all 3 is that TomTom and Vontobel are setting a furious pace, reducing the peloton to 47, and closing down any lead they hoped to gain.
Is this a stepping stone to some attacks? Nope, nobody seems to fancy it today.
Indonesian national champion Pranata is well placed with 6km to go as are Duque, Geschke and Sánchez Gonzalez.
But there's no attacks, and no sprint organisation. The kick for the line is led by the relayers, and Vontobel pair Schuler and Flückiger.
Marentes charges forward with Tiernan-Locke and Hollenstein looking to follow his slipstream.
Bizarrely Geschke is not even sprinting at all.
Wilson Marentes carries forward his charge to take the lead, open a gap, and win a lacklustre stage with ease!
He is credited with 12 seconds over the peloton where Vontobel relayers Schuler and Fluckiger take 2nd and 4th, separated only by Tiernan-Locke.
Another relayer, Mate, is 5th, with a strong Vontobel and TomTom presence at the top of the results list. They couldn't stop Azteca taking the win though!
