There's an amazing game I'd love to share with you. It's called This War of Mine and has been released last month. It's an indie-game going directly against games like Call of Duty or whatever.
It's 2D, but not a real platform game. Instead, the game focuses on surviving in a besieged city with a group of civilians. You could say it's a combination between Commandos and The Sims, but it's so much better, actually. You have to create a nice shelter with protection from looters, the cold, you have to scavange and find food, but also sleep and leave people behind to guard the place. Find weapons and make difficult choices. Do I rob the old people of their food or not?
Morale can drop below zero and you can be forced to kill others to survive. In the end, you may survive the siege, but there is no true winning this game. It's not a "fun" or happy game at all. The soundtrack is just fantastic and it looks like a graphic novel. It's one of the best games I've ever played.
You can share your experiences and game records here. For me, I've already played 4 games (always with different starting characters)
Game 1: survived 16 days, desperate need for food, took too many risks scavanging and all my characters were shot by militia.
Game 2: survived the siege after 43 days! Last 6 days we had a nice shelter with traps for rats. We had a home-made heater which protected us against the freezing cold outside. 3 survivors, 2 dead.
Game 3: survived 20 days. Disease did the trick.
Game 4: survived 29 days. After many characters dying early on, I had one ex-rebel left who survived 14 days on his own. Always going out to scavange, but taking the food with him so it couldn't be robbed. I managed to get a rifle and 8 bullets. Died on night 29, froze to death.
It's a really hard game to play. I mean that on two levels:
1. It's not a game that you can have your strategy and it'll work every time. The smallest thing can bring your entire shelter down.
2. It's a hard game to play, I mean for your mind. You face some dilemma's and you have death all around you. You cannot win this game. Even if you survive the siege, it doesn't quite feel like victory.

This game is incredible. I played it before the patch that fixed the problem where the traders would give you their entire inventory for a bottle of alcohol, so once I had the distillery up it broke the game. I'm going to go back and play it again with the most recent patch.
The atmosphere and character development in this game are just intense.
