Tour of Southland - Stage 2
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0026.jpg

2nd stage and this is one for the sprinters most likely.
Next to the mentioned i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mei.png Lo Cicero and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Meyer in the prologue, we have more top sprinters and first at least also within reach of the race lead.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Vanoverschelde

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0030.jpg

There were lots of attack. Too many actually and so the groups were always too big to be allowed to go.
Almost 60km in the stage this means that the first sprint is reached and the top sprinters can fight for the bonus seconds. Lo Cicero by far the fastest here taking it ahead of Corioni and a bit surprising race leader Ford. Only other rider going for it was Vanoverschelde, but he stopped pretty early again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0035.jpg

As the peloton was still together at the sprint, 2 riders decided to attack for the points with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/esc.png Wurf and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mag.png Boonratanathanakorn. Coyot is only taking the points by working for Castaneda.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0040.jpg

While Wurf was back in the peloton just afterwards, Boonrat... was still going solo. Behind them again Lo Cicero the fastest. This time ahead of Vanoverschelde with Ford being 4th not getting anything.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0044.jpg

The gap never really got very big. But with this nice effort Boonratanathanakorn is also taking the next mountain sprint and is going to wear the jersey tomorrow as Wurf is not getting any points. Lagutin and Konovalovas as sprint helper going over the line next.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0048.jpg

Late in the race one rider is jumping to Boonrat. It`s his short companion Wurf again. But actually this attack was quite senseless as it did not took very long and both were caught by the sprinter teams.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0053.jpg

Three sprint trains by Meiji, Venchi and Allianz. But they couldn`t be any more different in terms of speed. Lo Cicero with a clear advantage here as his leadout riders are far stronger than the others. One rider though is hanging behind him: 3rd in the GC, Cameron Meyer.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0071.jpg

Meiji still with a comfortable lead but Allianz found a good position now on the outside, while Venchi looks a bit blocked there. Meyer, Drujon, Vanoverschelde and eventually Ford the only sprinters hanging behind those trains, while the worse placed struggle.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0076.jpg

Modolo still in the lead but Lo Cicero already goes in the wind with 2km to go. This is a long way to go.
Meyer right behind and then 3 Allianz riders still ahead of Castaneda with Corioni, Drujon and Vanoverschelde just behind in one line now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0079.jpg

Castaneda though might have waited too long to leave his leadout train.
Lo Cicero and Meyer with a huge gap but still 1,3km to go.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0082.jpg

Flamme Rouge and Meyer is aiming the stage win here as he attacks Lo Cicero in a head to head sprint.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0084.jpg

Behind Corioni and Castaneda fight for the 3rd with Vanoverschelde also in the mix.
Some tier 2 sprinters trying to jump to them, but the top5 seems set. Only the order is unknown.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0085.jpg

A little bit later it looks more clear. Meyer indeed goes past Lo Cicero, while Corioni is the fastest of the next with Vanoverschelde also gapping Castaneda now, who can`t finish the great work of his leadout.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Southland/mg2014_southland_2_PCM0087.jpg

What a win for Cameron Meyer. He might be an Aussie, but his team is from New Zealand. So a half home win for the wildcard team!
Brilliant positioning and timing. And as if the win wasn`t great enough, he also takes the leader jersey by Ford.

Lo Cicero must be disappointed to not take the win here and in the end Corioni came really close as well.

Vanoverschelde as 4th ahead of Castaneda.

Best of the rest Nielsen ahead of Bennett, Modolo, Drujon and one big surprise: Pedraza?!?
Rather disappointing sprints by Park, Brea and Awang, who finish from 17.-19.
