The least challenging profile so far, the stage at least offers those, who aim for the KoM-competition, a good chance to go for points early into the stage.
Except of some speedbumps, the day is all-flat, so yesterday's best Forero, Vingerling and Manarelli should be the top-bets today.
Like yesterday, it's a rather quiet start into the day, but close the KoM-sprint, Sirionnachai (4th in KoM) attacks the bunch to grab the sprint:
KoM-competition Sirionnachai 26 Fernandez 18 Sanchez 18
Sirionnachai, who couldn't hang on with Fernandez/Zamri as part of the breakaway on the opening stage, was later joined by Agnoli to build the 2-men-break of the day.. just a minutes-lead halfway through the stage though!
The duo would hold on to a gap until the final 10km, where the bunch pulls them back.. Agnoli took out both intermediate sprints for some improvement in the GC.
TomTom, ONCE, Vontobel and Bonsucro leading the peloton into the final kilometres now.
With 4.5km remainig and the teams starting to build their sprint-trains, Roulston goes for a late attack! Is there still no faith in Meyer or just a tactical move to fool the sprinters?
It won't matter anyway, as it's an empty-handed attempt by the Kiwi road champion! He got reeled in 3km before finish and it's time for a first overview on the overall situation at the front:
Mas Aguilar Manarelli Averin Brus Vingerling Poulhies Cano Awang Fonseca Angarita Schinker Briggs Meyer Renshaw Forero Gajek
So this time, Guillén struggled to be at the front of the bunch at this point..
But he's just close behind Gajek, just like Uugunbayar, who catches Meyer's wheel a few moments later..
..at the very front though, Forero moved forward with some early speed!
Yesterday's stage-winner opens up a notable gap quickly to enter the final km in the leading position!
Bonsucro's train did not play it perfect, as Manarelli lost some ground to Renshaw/Briggs/Meyer.. and also Cano loses speed! Vingerling now on his own on the left side, while the likes of Awang and also Guillén don't look like they will be in the mix today!
We get a clearer picture now that Forero struggles to keep his pace high.. an Aussie-duo Meyer/Renshaw moves forward, with Uugunbayar, Schinker, Manarelli and Vingerling trying to hang on!
Forero obviously went too early and won't repeat his victory from yesterday.. Meyer/Renshaw head-to-head at the front, with Vingerling, Manarelli and also Uugunbayar in the mix for the stage!
Also moving forward: Sinner, who missed the early trains to finish with some good speed now!
No chance to go for the line honours though: Meyer with a small advantage on Renshaw and Vingerling holds off Manarelli to attack the leading duo..
But Meyer bounces back from yesterday's disastrous result and does it in style! An important win for the Aussie ahead of compatriot Renshaw, who managed to hold off Vingerling! Manarelli and Forero complete the Top-5, while points-leader Guillén (16th) had his problems today.
Fernandez keeps his yellow easily, just like Zamri his 2nd in GC.. Guillén still on 3rd (and points-leader) ahead of Forero and Meyer..
