TheManxMissile
i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag175/themanxmissile/Guatemala%20Stage%204/PCM0001_zps7d4d791b.png

Welcome to Stage 4! It's a rolling day ridden mostly uphill so should be contested by the punchers. The main favorites are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Kolobnev, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Mendes, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Bugge and stage 2 winner i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Schurter. But in case of a bunch dash watch for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Parisien.

The first attack comes after 3km of racing. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wwr.png Safarzadeh leads the way with KoM leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Bakhin.
Shortly after i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Landa, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.png Matteau try and follow the move. They join the duo briefly but all 5 riders are caught after 8km

i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag175/themanxmissile/Guatemala%20Stage%204/PCM0002_zps620a8002.png

Just after 9km Landa and Safarzadeh go again, and this time get a solid gap. Through the KoM sprint at 12km they lead, in that order, by 43" over i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mlj.png Fahnert and the peloton.
From there things settles down. Landa wins the IS after 35km, whilst i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/esc.png Opie jumps from the peloton for points 3'36 behind.
43km into the short day and Safarzadeh wins the second KoM. Fahnert again jumps the peloton and builds up a lead of 1'00 as he chases down the leaders.
And with 40km to go Fahnert joins Landa and Safarzadeh 2'50 ahead of the peloton. He doens't contest the IS sprint which goes to Safarzadeh.

i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag175/themanxmissile/Guatemala%20Stage%204/PCM0004_zps40af6758.png

Fahnert must be feeling good as he wins the thrid KoM at 28km to go. The Peloton is slowly closing in with the gap reduced to just 2'00. Fahnert hears this and pushes on, dropping Landa and Safazadeh quickly. This could be a serious move as Fahnert is on 1'33 down on the GC!

i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag175/themanxmissile/Guatemala%20Stage%204/PCM0005_zps880febdc.png

Throught 20km to go and Fahnert heads the chasing duo by 1'05. The Peloton continue to chase a further 1'00 down. The pace is causing casualties as the peloton reduces to 94men, but it's only the sprinters suffering.

With 15km to race i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Vontobel lead the chase and catch Landa and Safarzadeh. Fahnert however continues a great ride pulling out to 1'44, and the provisional race lead.

The final KoM is crossed with 12km to go. Fahnerts lead has been cut to 1'25 as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/onc.png Kulhavy and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tas.png Richardson lead the chase over the pass.
Down the other side Richardson tries an attack. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Beltran, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Rosa, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Mate and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Ardila try and follow. However this group was too dangerous to be given space.

i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag175/themanxmissile/Guatemala%20Stage%204/PCM0007_zps1f4a9017.png

Through 7km to go and Beltran gets his gap! He pushes hard now only 1'00 behind Fahnert. Behind him i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Mendes tries an attack but is shut down by race leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Zoidl!

i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag175/themanxmissile/Guatemala%20Stage%204/PCM0008_zpse1c60df6.png

With just 2.5km to go Fahnerts great day comes to an end. Beltran catches him on the slope, but Fahnert forces Beltran to leadout the finish. But the Peloton is only 30" behind the two and mind game will cost them the race!!!

i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag175/themanxmissile/Guatemala%20Stage%204/PCM0010_zpsc6763312.png

Under the Kite Beltran still leads but i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Marentes has jumped away to almost negate the gap. Sweeping into the final turn and climb to the line it's going to be close...

i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag175/themanxmissile/Guatemala%20Stage%204/PCM0011_zps42589121.png

500meters to go and Marentes runs out of steam whilst Beltran digs so deep to stay ahead. But the favorites are now closing in behind...

i1368.photobucket.com/albums/ag175/themanxmissile/Guatemala%20Stage%204/PCM0013_zps9fd10687.png

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Beltran holds on to take an incredible victory! He really found something extra to hold onto that one. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Marentes takes a close second, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Moreno finishing fast in 3rd. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mlj.png Fahnert gets some rewards for his effort in 4th ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Kolobnev and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/scl.png Sayar in 5th and 6th. Race leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Zoidl defends strong in 7th with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Montaguti, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wwr.png Dyball and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Bugge completeing the Top10 positions.
