One for the sprinters, however, they won't have it all their own way. We have a 2. cat climb summiting 16 KM before a descent to the finish, the climb being 5 KM @ 5% with percentages rising to 11%. Could be one for a breakaway.



A 3 man break made it away today:

There would be plenty of interest to keep the break under control. Eddie Stobart Pro Cycling, Team Live Nation, Azteca - NBCSN and Project: Africa were the main teams chasing. All chasing teams would hope this would end in a big bunch sprint.



The break hit the final climb. With 20 KM to go the break still have 1'47, the speed drops from the peloton as domestiques are weary of dropping their sprinters on the climb.

Towards the top of the climb only around 17 riders are dropped from the peloton, the biggest names being: Orozco and Rojas Villegas.

The race with 16 KM to go:

Sørensen is now well dropped and has been caught by the peloton, who slowed up on the climb. A good descent in the wet conditions will see Schachmann take the win.



Bank of Ireland – Irish Cycling set the pace, more and more teams contribute to the pace setting but is it too little too late?



Marentes gives his all on the downhill, but they can't make big enough in roads.




Win for Schachmann! The lone rider survives from the break to take stage 1 of the Giro de Capo. He continues the good run of results, as of late, for his team.

How far would the peloton finish down?



Rangel leads the peloton home at '58 after a really scrappy sprint. Marentes, Farrar and Dahlberg round out the top 5.



Rangel will look to make amends on stage 2 after comfortably winning the sprint here. Schachmann looks set for a decent spell in the race lead.
