Tour of the Middle East - Stage 5
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Middle%20East/mg2014_middleeast_5_PCM0141.jpg

It`s the first flat stage of the race and actually 2 more will follow afterwards. So time for the sprinters to justify their race entry.
This little hill before the final thoush could be too hard for some.

A trio was allowed to create a gap after the first sprint, that was decided by the sprinters. None of them is any GC danger.

The sprinter teams too over in the peloton and try to secure a sprint finish.
Haedo, Awang, Rasmussen, Westling. All of them have sent their helpers to the front.

Meanwhile the group has reached the other two sprints:

In especially Carlsberg are taking over on the hill. This is rather surprising as Rasmussen is one of the weakest climber the World has ever seen. As they are not going that slow, it does not look like they just want to control the race to help him.
At least the breakaway is just ahead now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Middle%20East/mg2014_middleeast_5_PCM0155.jpg

With 10km to go the group is caught on top of the hill. Still 100 riders in the peloton but who did suffer here?

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Middle%20East/mg2014_middleeast_5_PCM0157.jpg

With Sauber and Carlsberg we have the two trains of the weakest hilly sprinters. So obviously the hill was not that difficult.

No Haedo near the front surprisingly. Also the last 4 riders already a bit behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Middle%20East/mg2014_middleeast_5_PCM0170.jpg

Sabatini takes over and leads out Rasmussen, while Jiriakov and Awang are right behind.
But also Polivoda and Richeze are coming towards the front rows.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Middle%20East/mg2014_middleeast_5_PCM0174.jpg

Rasmussen and Awang look tired. So the hills might actually have played a role here.
Instead it`s Polivoda going into the lead.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Middle%20East/mg2014_middleeast_5_PCM0176.jpg

Awang with 2nd air?
Equal with Polivoda for 1st while the hillier sprinters are coming from behind with Rodriguez and Pozdnyakov.
Then again also Richeze and Gajek behind them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Middle%20East/mg2014_middleeast_5_PCM0178.jpg

Polivoda struggling, while Awang is still near the front. But Pozdnyakov in the lead now ahead of Rodriguez.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Middle%20East/mg2014_middleeast_5_PCM0180.jpg

It was close between those two. But it was the Ameriabank rider taking the stage in the end. Rodriguez still on a good 2nd, which will give him bonus seconds in the GC fight.
Awang keeps a strong 3rd on this stage ahead of Richeze, Polivoda and Gajek.
Castano, Minard, Westling and Clavero complete the top10 ahead of the Carlsberg trio.
