Welcome to Brazil on the Formula 1 GP track. The sprinter teams are here to take the win at the Interlagos GP debut.
As always some riders want to avoid the sprint finish and go into the morning breakaway. Some of those though are riders with a sprinter behind:
Briceno
Shirota
Dieteren
Barbas
Bostner
Turek
Njoroge
Tsikhanau
Only Puma and Privatbank are doing the pace here. Other teams have either a guy in front or are not interested to help the stronger teams. After having a max of a bit more than 2min due to the short course, it`s a bit under 2min with 40km to go.
Bad luck for Kump as he punctures just when the pace is the highest. No chance to make it back for him, which will be a huge bummer for his team.
31km left and more riders try to attack. The short hill is not very steep but still a good opportunity to attack the sprinters.
Makino
Speirs
Garcia
Kurth
Lequatre
A bit later the peloton has a nice view over the situation.
Still 50s for the breakaway over the first trio behind. Then Kurtg and Garcia another 15s while hte peloton is 20s behind those.
More riders tried it as well but in the end all recent attackers were just caught again by the PrivatBank train. Still 54s with 11km to go!
Puma has stopped the pace making and the green riders here must be tired as they did a lot so far.
Rojas realizes this short slowdown the first and attacks. Can he bridge the gap solo?
Also in front some riders attack:
Tsikhanau
Bostner
The sprinters are coming to the front but as Privatbank had to work a lot it`s only Polivoda ahead of Greipel and all other sprinters behind him in a long line.
Polivoda-Greipel-Forero-Ciolek-Aberasturi-Napolitano-Keough-Davis-Vaitkus-Park-Breschel-Abdallah.
That said, where are the Brazilians? No Manarelli, no Andriato.
Disappointingly for the sprinters the group might actually make it. Too less support for Privatbank in the end.
Bostner leading out the rest.
Still a long line here a bi tbehind Rojas. The group in front seems too far away as they are already on the finish line. Shame for those here as it`s just a fight for the last top10 spots.
Still Bostner with Turek, Barbas and Shirota coming from behind.
But it`s the riders on the right side of the road now having the best speed:
Dieteren and Briceno.
Back to the sprinters.
Polivoda has started the sprint while catching Rojas. But it was late. Only 1,7km until the finish.
So quickly moving back to the front as they will definitely make it now.
Dieteren goes into the lead which would be a great one for Amex. Barbas and Briceno still challenging him while hte others looks beaten and in especially Bostner is slowing down a lot.
And it`s indeed the German rider from AmexPC taking the first ever Interlago GP victory. Very well done by him as he was the strongest in the end.
Barbas and Briceno are surely happy with a podium for their teams.
Bostner somehow gets a 4th ahead of Turek and Shirota, whose team must rethink their tactics here as Napolitano behind was clearly a better favourite than 6th.
Njoroge and Tsikhanau only the last group positions but still good results for the team I guess.
The sprint is won by Napolitano, which makes it even a bigger dilemma by Meiji, who could have celebrated the win.
Ciolek as 2nd here rounds up the top10 ahead of Aberasturi, Greipel and co.
Andriato as 21st and Manarelli as 33rd with rather disappointing results in their home race.
