My Name Is Tom
I was born in Imst, Austria, at the end of November 1992. My parents were English and worked for a multinational. We moved back to the UK in 2003. I also have a brother Harry, who is a few years older.
I got my first bike when we came to the UK in 2002 aged 9. I did a lot of casual riding, especially with my brother, around town.
He started racing when i was 12, in 2005, and i quickly followed suit. We both loved the competition, but from the start it was obvious i was the better one.
My father had a passing interest in cycling, mostly through commuting to and from work. So cycling was around the family, if not a major force.

How Did I Get To France?
When i was 18 i completed my A-Levels and immediately packed a bag. My plan was to spend the summer racing in France then return and start a career in the UK.
However fate, it seemed, had different ideas. I won 9 out of 14 races that summer, and attracted a lot of attention from a variety of local amateur french teams.
I returned home, but something was burning deep down inside me. I started going to work, for a mid sized charity, but after a couple of weeks i began racing again. Winning became a habit, 20-miles, 10-miles, grass track, hill climbs, they all fell beneath my wheels over the final few months of the season.
So through the winter i started training hard. Harry rode with a major South UK Amateur team, and constantly told me stories of his racing. He inspired me to chase a dream, a dream of going to Europe and doing what they do, which was winning.
So in May 2012 i began racing with the same Amateur team. I'll keep this short. I dominated. As in, completely. I won 100% of my races at the Junior level.
Again keeping this short. Hard winter of training, with one goal now. I would move to France and race there, and push to go professional. One question that came up was why not go through UK Cycling projects? I always had a traditional view of cycling. My love was for the 1950's and 60's. Merckx, Anquetil, Poulidor, Darrigarde, Simpson. Those were my heroes.
April 2013 i got the ferry from Dover to Calais. I had a rucksack of clothes,
an iPhone, £300 and my customized Specialized.

My Amateur Season
In truth this was not a full amateur season. I had no club and no real license. I just Googled and went to the races i could find. All the local clubs were happy to let me ride, as having a Brit was different and exciting.
In April i won 3 out of 6 races. In May i won 11 out of 13 races. In June i won 12 out of 13 races. In July i took a break to follow Le Tour.
We all know it was another Great British Tour, with Froome and Cavendish both playing significant roles along with Team Sky.
August back to action, winning 6 out of 10 races. September came and things changed. I was solely racing in Northern France, mostly Nord-Pas-de-Calais and venturing as far as Haute-Normandie at times.
One day there was a knock on my flats door. Two people were there, Daniel Verbrackel and Frederic Delcambre. They wanted to offer me a contract.

What Next?
So my first season, with Roubaix-Lille Métropole, will be at £2,500 p/a. It's a one year contract as they see how much ability i really have. So 2014 will be about showing what i've got and getting a new deal.
This year then it's get a new contract, win a french race, top5 in ten events and get shortlisted for the Worlds. Maybe tough looking, but i see no reason i can't make them happen.
Further ahead, lets say three years, so 2017, i want to be team leader in the World Tour, Podium a major one-day classic and challenge a major stage race.
My career goals are big, Win Le Tour, Win the Worlds and be the best Brit of all time!

Irregular Blood Values

Seventeen days have passed since the end of Le Tour de France. It was one of the cleanest Tours in recent memory with zero big name doping cases emerging, and the new face of cycling again taking center stage in the shape of the British-Kenyan. Now just a couple of weeks after a thrilling finale on the Champs Elysees which saw a great shift in the sprinting powers, that is on the cusp of changing.

A rumor has been leaked to the general media that one of the big name riders who participated in Le Tour has been taken in for questioning over irregular blood values that were collected on the first rest day, which was the 8th July. All that has been leaked is that WADA has contacted the rider, with the aid of local police, about these irregularities. This rider can only be considered a big name in the sport.

This story will be updated as soon as more information comes to light. For now all we can do is speculate...

A Second Test

Three days have passed since the leaked rumors of a positive test for one of cycling's big names which occurred during the Tour de France. Speculation has raged since then with names like Alejandro Valverde and Bauke Mollema being offered up as potential candidates. As yet there has been no official words from any national federations, teams, riders or WADA as to the identity of the rider, or even to confirm if the rumors were true.

A number of teams have come out to defend their riders, lead by Vaughters of Garmin-Sharp. Following the news he released all 9 Tour riders Bio Passports in an effort to shift suspicion away from his squad. This move was then replicated by FDJ and Argos-Shimano. In addition to these teams a number of riders have followed suit, such as Michal Kwiatkowski, Taylor Phinney, Andre Greipel and Pierre Rolland. While we were no closer to knowing who is involved a number of riders can now be excluded.

The media have been keen to pick up on those who have been slow to respond. Bjarne Riis's Saxo-Tinkoff have been quiet following Roman Keuzigers above expectation ride. Jakob Fuglsang and Alexander Vinokourov's Astana Team have also been silent on the matter, and we all know this team has more than a dodgy past. While Kwiatkowski released his data, his QuickStep team has yet to make a comment. Other eyes anxiously watch young superstar Peter Sagan after his second Green Jersey. Finally Tour winning Team Sky has also kept quiet. Having fielded these questions for over two years now it can be safe to assume their stance is a denial of any allegations.

The latest updates point towards a press conference being held by WADA tomorrow, when they will release all the latest information on the case once they have confirmed the findings from the riders B Sample. The speculation will continue long into the night about which rider is on the verge of collapse, and even if there could be more than one rider involved...

Anyways, it's interesting that you decided to pick the same intro as in the last thread. Curious to see what's next (except change of sixteen to seventeen days from Tour part in the first update Pfft) and when will you start with different updates.

WADA Press Conference: Confirmed

As promised WADA held a press conference today. The announcement was made at their headquarters in Switzerland. The quiet lakes and mountains were soon to be woken by shouts of disbelief and of unanswered questions. The room was full of the established cycling media, as well as a number of larger sized news firms like Sky and NBC.

WADA began by explaining the situation. On July 8th, the first rest day of Le Tour, a blood sample was taken outside of normal competition testing. The on-race testing lab returned no positive result, however once back at HQ it was re-tested. This second test came back positive. The A-Sample tested positive for Acadesine (AICAR) which is a drug that turns fast-twitch into slow-twitch. The B-Sample also came back positive, confirming the AICAR positive, as well as showing traces of GW1516 and a masking diuretic. The tests from the second rest day, July 15th, contained the same elements.

Chris Froome, the 2013 Tour de France winner. New figurehead of British Cycling and Team Sky. The man who worked so hard for Wiggins in 2011 and 2012. The response from the media was not one of surprise, it had been widely believed that Froome had been doping since his sudden rise during the 2011 Vuelta. The main questions were directed about other Sky riders such as Wiggins. But the conference was not done yet!

They announced a second positive test from Le Tour!
