Tour de Bretagne - Stage 7
The Rider
i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b1_zpsd905754b.jpg

The final stage. After an action packed penultimate stage will we see further changes in the GC today? Well, with four ascents of a cobbled hill in the last 30 KM the terrain is certainly there.

Stage Favourites:

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Team TomTom chase the breaks early on. They have had a fantastic tour de Bretagne so far, will they secure the GC win today?

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b3_zps2a360376.jpg
6 make the break today.

The final stage sees the largest break here get away, the riders:

- i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Van Baarle
- i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny @ 5'34
- i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.png Matteau
- i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Rosseler
- i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wwr.png Hughes @ 4'53
- i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Selander

No real dangers made the break, time-wise, so we could be seeing a third consecutive breakaway win today.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b4_zps42ca3bf5.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Team Carlsberg - Danske Bank and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Team Live Nation were the predominant chasers on the front of the peloton. Strange tactics from Carlsberg as they had a capable man in the break.

With 47 KM to go the break have 3'05 over the peloton, who are all together.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b5_zps9f9229de.jpg
25 KM to go.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Firsanov attacks out of the peloton. There is still to time for him to move into the KOM jersey if he can catch the break who are around 2'00 ahead.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b6_zpsfd8d3ce1.jpg
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.pngMatteau leads the break up the first cobbled ascent.

The cobbled hill looks to be less punishing than many cobblers would have liked.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b7_zps5fc9a96f.jpg
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Wyss attacks with 19 KM to go.

After tentative attacks from i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/eub.png Moinard and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua get nowhere, we see a more promising attack from Wyss, who is just '33 down in GC.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b8_zps9678225f.jpg

A strong looking i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Duggan manages to closes down the attack from Wyss, showing his strength.

Yet Duggan needn't close down all these attacks as the likes of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua attack, get a gap of around 10 meters, then just slow up completely because no one is there to ride with! This sees the gap to the original break spiral outwards, big time!

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b9_zps19b88e08.jpg
Rosseler powers ahead!

With 15 KM to go i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Rosseler distances the rest of the break with a big attack. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Selander and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny, who could really move up in GC with the antics of the favourites, are the most capable to chase Rosseler.

Meanwhile, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Firsanov is in no mans land. We have now run out of KOM points to be had. Firsanov did manage to win 4 KOM points, to move up to 3rd in that competition, but he couldn't catch the break and take any more.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b10_zpsed340c2f.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Bugge is the next favourite to attack then completely come to a stop and be caught by the peloton.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b11_zpse76c5502.jpg
7 KM to go.

The Race:

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Rosseler
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Selander/i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny@ '32
Rest of original break@ '42
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Firsanov@ 1'00
Peloton@ 4'30

It is looking good for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Rosseler as he heads up the third ascent of the cobbled hill. Due to the shenanigans of the peloton, the gap to the break has ballooned out!

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b12_zps7723fab9.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua attacks before, you guessed it, coming to a complete stop. Some domestiques of the GC teams such as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Toribio come to the front to ensure the gap to the break doesn't affect the GC.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b13_zps9ddc9445.jpg
Stage win Team Carlsberg - Danske Bank.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Team Carlsberg - Danske Bank, who pride themselves as a team built for cobbles, take the win on their favoured terrain thanks to Rosseler. He was the strongest of the break and is rewarded with a welcome stage win for the Danish team, who now have something to take away from this race.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b14_zps825658ce.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Cycling Team will be disappointed about being bested by Carlsberg, however, they will be pleased with the second place finish of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Cerny. A result which would see him rise to 11th in GC.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Selander, 3rd, rounds off one of the better days of this tour for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Team Chiquita - Universal.

Places 4 through 7 are taken by the original break and the aggressive i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Firsanov.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b15_zps9f275178.jpg

The favourites go up the final cobbled hill. We have had attacks today from the favourites, plenty of them. However, no one has followed through with any conviction, as a result over 100 riders are together as we enter the final 2 kilometres.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Haas (right) puts in one last big attack. He knows he can't win the GC now, but there is still a chance he can move up a few places.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b16_zpsa0860881.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Haas powers all the way to the line and finishes in 8th. Is that a gap back to the peloton?

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b17_zps341153d0.jpg
No gap there!

The last bit of action in this tour sees i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.png Bole ensure his podium spot in GC is secured as he prevents Haas from gaining any time.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b18_zpsc5cee76a.jpg
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Duggan takes the GC.

After securing vital bonus seconds on stages 4 and 6 it is the American who wins the 2014 Tour de Bretagne, the hefty price tag is paying off for TomTom. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Marentes really outperformed expectations here, he finishes 2nd overall. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.png Bole, one of the most talented riders in the continental league, finishes in a respectable 3rd.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Vingerling gives another reason for TomTom to cheer, as he takes homes the points jersey. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Risa - Ergon really wanted the GC win, but they will take the youth jersey and the team classification titles, for to forget ......

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/b19_zps04bd9f76.jpg
Olsson takes the polka dots.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Olsson has another fantastic Tour de Bretagne. The way Olsson came back from his falls in the first stages was amazing, you could argue well that he was the most impressive rider here.

That wraps up the 2014 Tour de Bretagne.
