Tour de Bretagne - Stage 6
The Rider
i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/A1_zps8492c925.jpg

The profile may not luck too harsh, but make no mistake the finishing circuit is really hilly. The terrain is there for the GC men to really do some damage on this penultimate stage.

Stage Favourites:

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Kolobnevi439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Buggei439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Wyss
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Haasi439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua

'Mr Bretagne' Olsson makes the break again!

With 117 KM to go a three man break would be established, the riders:

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Olsson - @ 11'17
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/eub.png Sanchez - @ 12'04
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Østergaard - @ 5'18

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a3_zps9d8357e6.jpg
Olsson moves back into the KOM jersey.

The Swede would claim the max number of KOM points on offer (20), on the only two climbs of the day, which came early on, to overhaul i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wwr.png Crane and move back into the KOM jersey.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a4_zps765aff9d.jpg
Just minor points for these guys.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/evo.png Grand, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Firsanov and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Rathe would attack for the minor points to liven up the race early on.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz, would not be content with this small cameo, and would ride across to the break of the day to form a quartet with 80 KM to go. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Team Puma - SAP really need to show something here after a barren first five days of action.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a5_zps295bb3d5.jpg
You just can't stop him!

With 80 KM to go and the break at 5'00 and with no more KOM points on offer today, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/evo.png Grand attacks out of the peloton. He has been active on all stages bar one so far, getting good TV time if nothing else! What a fighter! He would soon be caught.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a6_zpsf298c835.jpg
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Flückiger sets the pace for Vontobel.

With 30 KM to go the original four man break have 1'50 over the peloton, the hilly circuit is almost upon us.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a7_zpsfc40f96b.jpg
Attacks out of the peloton.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.png Kern and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Firsanov attack out of the peloton with 25 KM to go. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.png Kern, at just 1'02' down in GC was a real dangerman and was not allowed to getaway.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.png Team Nordeus, with their strength in depth, would close this attack down.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a8_zps2f6adc90.jpg
Inside the final 20 KM.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Marentes, who has been looking good all week, and a cluster of other favourites amass towards the front of the peloton on the hill which comprises the circuit. The tension is palpable as an attack is surely moments away.

Out-front, only two riders remain from the original break. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Olsson have around 1'20 over the favourites group.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a9_zps561ef7f3.jpg
Olsson attacks!

The gap to the two men out front is holding strong as Olsson attacks Herklotz. Can the German get back to the Swede?

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a10_zps414db423.jpg
Marentes attacks!

With 15 KM to go i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Marentes is the first rider, who is right up there in GC @ '36, to attack from the GC group. He quickly gets a sizable gap and is looking strong.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a11_zps1f5fc518.jpg

Race leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/eub.png Moinard, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Duggan, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Wyss and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Haas break off from the rest of the peloton shortly afterwards.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a12_zps5423504e.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Wyss and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Haas attack the rest of this select group. There is attacking everywhere. The attack of this duo seems to have put the race leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua in some difficulty.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.png Bole and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Hollenstein are seen making a move up towards the Passalacqua group.

Surprisingly, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Grupo Nutresa are nowhere to been seen amongst these attacks, perhaps Kolobnev is having a bad day? It seems so as i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Fonte is seen ahead of the Russian.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Risa - Ergon will have to put all their faith in Haas today as Bugge is well down, some 1'00 behind Haas with 10 KM to go.

Meanwhile with 5 KM to go it is looking good for the original break. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz has managed to ride back across to Olsson and they have '50 over Marentes and 1'00 over Haas and Wyss, when .....

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a13_zps0b49e947.jpg
What rotten luck.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz punctures with 4 KM to go. He was in a great position for the stage win, but that is cycling. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Olsson cannot afford to wait for the German and continues on, he looks like he has enough to ride this to the finish and take the win.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a14_zps5a9bb9ea.jpg
The battle for the GC.

The GC men quickly catch the dejected i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Puma rider. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Marentes is the virtual GC leader, he has '10 over i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Haas and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Wyss who are working well together and, inch by inch, are closing down on the Colombian.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a15_zps9335a370.jpg
Marentes giving everything with 2 KM to go.

It is going to be one really close battle for the GC, behind i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Duggan, shows his face, joins up with Haas and Wyss. With i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.png Bole desperately trying to bridge the gap about '10 behind.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a16_zpsd095c51b.jpg
Stage win Olsson!

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Risa - Ergon win stage 6 thanks to an impressive ride from the Swede. He never won a stage here in 2013 but he has one now. He will go down in Tour de Bretagne folklore. It is impossible to say whether i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Team Puma - SAP would have taken the win if Herklotz didn't puncture at the worst moment.

Behind, due to the small circuit, there is a mash of lapped riders and GC men. Did Marentes hold on for second?

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a17_zps345659f5.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Duggan comes flying up the final 200 meters to catch Marentes, finish second, and move into the GC lead! A brilliant showing from i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Marentes, however, is rewarded with a 3rd place finish and the second spot in GC.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a18_zps2c5f48b9.jpg
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/eub.png Moinard coming home in 8th.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.png Grega Bole finished alongside i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Wyss some '13 down on Duggan and moves up to 3rd in GC.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Haas, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Hollenstein, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/eub.png Moinard, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Fonte and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua round out the top 10, coming home in ones and twos.

i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/a19_zps9b757184.jpg
A hard day for Bugge.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Bugge, the GC favourite, finished down in 14th some 1'30 behind Duggan, his blushes will be spared by the good showing from his teammates.
