The big hills are past us. Now the sprinters will get another chance. That said todays stage is quite bumpy as well and so could also favour the hilly sprinters.
Geschke
Pozdnyakov
Iglinski
Lang
have to be named today.
5 riders in todays breakaway.
O'Brien
Tang
Hughes
Senni
Sabido
+2'53 is the most dangerous today.
On top of the first hill we have an intermediate sprint today.
Hughes takes it ahead of O'Brien and Sabido.
While Hughes is also taking the KoM there is no fight for those points. Tang and Sabido behind him.
Fletcher and Dell are the two teams doing the pace at the moment. 60km, 3 min.
Obviously they are riding for their high GC riders Chaabane and Chu, who were part of yesterdays huge break.
O'Brien taking the last sprint ahead of Hughes and Tang. 2min are left of their former gap. Still melting.
Only 6km left when the break is caught. In the end also the big sprinter teams Alpina, Azteca and Ameriabank were chasing and so they avoided another group win.
The riders look quite tired after all the hills and so the trains are chaotic.
Only one train is really forming, with only 1 rider though.
Parisien Haedo Geschke Borges- - Sobal Pozdnyakov Iglinski Petrie-Armstrong Arango Forero Sabatini Fonseca Dahlberg Sutton Brus Manarelli
Yellow jersey of Borges is dropping a bit of the top rows. No surprise as the race leader is surely no sprinter and positioning is not what he is training all day.
Instead it`s Pozdnyakov now hanging behind Geschke. So the two strongest hilly sprinters in the perfect position behind Haedo.
Last corner and we see Haedo and Geschke starting the sprint. Huge leadout by Parisien must be said for more than 2km. But still 1,8km to go!
Pozdnyakov lost the German`s wheel but has to avoid another problem next to him! Ouch.
Arango in a very bad position here. Next to Pozdnyakov and just ahead of his leader Forero he hits the ground. He just pulled Forero into a perfect position.
Even worse that his team mate can`t go around in that corner and also goes down. Horrible news for Alpina as the podium was possible today.
We have to go back to the top now and can`t check if other riders also go down.
Geschke outstanding! Is this the first Evonik win in this race after some missed opportunities? Eventhough it`s still 1km it looks like this.
Haedo almost can`t go faster than his leadout, while Sobal is the fast man from BoI on the left.
Borges and Pozdnyakov behind then ahead of Sutton, Iglinski, Dajlberg, Manarelli, Tiernan-Locke.
8s gap for the German. He needs time bonusses to climb in the GC and this looks promising. Also the sprinter jersey is a goal for him as he is just wearing it for Borges at the moment.
Behind him Pozdnyakov found his speed again and goes in 2nd ahead of Haedo. Also Selander is coming fast on the final meters.
Dominant win for Geschke. No other rider was even close. Finally a lot of pressure is gone and he celebrates yet another stage win this season.
Pozdnyakov as 2nd ahead of surprisingly strong Selander. Then the first pure sprinters in Serebriakov and Haedo.
While Forero was back on his bike quickly and finished just at the end of the peloton we have to more riders struggling!
Chaabane 2nd in the GC and Haas 7th both crashed in the Forero/Arango corner. But thanks to Arango, who is keeping a small gap to the rider ahead and so allowing them to be within the 20s limit, the officials are not hurting their GC!
Same group. So now it`s jut about injuries, but both looked fast in the end and so hopes are realistic that they will be okay tomorrow. Big luck for those two teams.
