Ruta America del Sur - Stage 3
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0095.jpg

Definitely one of the hardest stage this race with 6 KoM sprints and a short uphill finish. Today the GC riders need good legs if they don`t want to fail.
Top favourite without a doubt is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/boi.png Mendes but behind him lots of riders can make it difficult for him.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0096.jpg

Early KoM and we have already some attackers.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Chamorro
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Foliforov
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Bulgac
is the order. So last is taking the KoM lead this way.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0099.jpg

In addition to the three above i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Melo completes the break of the day.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0104.jpg

The latest also takes the next KoM ahead of Chamorro and Bulgac.
Same order as well for the following sprint.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0107.jpg

Azteca at the front of the peloton. But defending the lead with sprinter Haedo seems pretty unlikely actually. So sooner or later we surely will see a team swap at the front.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0110.jpg

Foliforov takes the 3rd KoM after not getting anything on the last. Melo and Chamorro follow next.
One later it`s Chamorro ahead of Bulgac and Foliforov.
So the group is nicely sharing the points so far. Bulgac having 14 points already before the stage, so he is still in the lead at the moment.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0113.jpg

44km left and the day is already over for the breakaway. This was far faster than expected. 2 KoM`s are still to come, so other riders might get some points as well.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0115.jpg

5km later we see another attack.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ttt.png Toribio
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Vink
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Chalapud
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Jones
are all 2nd tier favourites being decentply placed and okay puncheurs.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0121.jpg

A bigger danger though is the rider, who follows them:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua. The Italian is one of the top5 puncheurs here and mustn`t be underestimated.
Meanwhile Jones, Chalapud and Toribio take the mountain points.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0130.jpg

Passalacqua is caught again but still 4 riders in front.
Time for more riders to attack.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/evo.png Geschke being the first followed by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Rosa, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Passalacqua again, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Sarabia, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Parisien and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Selander.
ASDA for Tiernan-Locke and Ban of Ireland for Mendes are controlling the peloton trying to bring everything together again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0137.jpg

Except for Chalapud this worked pretty well. 4 riders each they have a good strength to work against any attacks.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0139.jpg

But as also Chalapud was caught before the KoM, it`s i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Walker attacking to take the mountain points. As neither
McLay nor Dall'Oste tried anything, it`s indeed Bulgac being the new KoM leader closely ahead of Chamorro who scored by far the most today with 15 points.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0145.jpg

3,6km to go and still a tiny gap for Walker on the descent. But there are pretty tough last 1500m and BoI is chasing hard for Mendes.
Also a huge surprise: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Haedo is still in the peloton and actually within the first 15 positions. So eventually he can defend his lead today. Also other fast men such as Geschke, Lang or Iglinski in good positions next to all the top puncheurs.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0157.jpg

Haas is caught. Best placed riders surprisingly are Dyball and Selander now.
Behind them Tiernan-Locke and Geschke already in full sprint with Mendes, Passalacqua, Duggan being the next placed riders.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0163.jpg

Last kilometer and still Dyball against Selander. Can they surprise the stronger puncheurs?
BoI is hugely attacking from behind now. Not only Mendes but also Sobal and Kelly are equal with Geschke.
Tiernan-Locke lost a bitand is on a line with Passalacqua, Duggan, Haas, Bugge, Malle, Walker, Olsson and Bissinger.
Haedo just behind them still fighting!

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0171.jpg

Dyball is fading with Mendes on the left. Also Tiernan-Locke has found his pace again being in 4th position. BoI still strong and only Geschke can compete.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0173.jpg

Selander also beaten as Mendes takes the lead just ahead of Tiernan-Locke.
Geschke also out of energy now as he is passed by Duggan and co.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0174.jpg

In the end Mendes was the strongest and takes the favourite win ahead of Tiernan-Locke.
Selander and Dyball with a huge result today after their early "attack". Also Duggan and Haas can be happy as next riders.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Ruta%20del%20Sur/mg2014_rutasur_3_PCM0175.jpg

In especially as their was clearly a gap behind them. Fading Geschke just holds on to 7th ahead of Kelly and the strong Risa riders Olsson and Bugge. But they are given a 25s gap and this way lost a bit in the GC.
As also Haedo was in that group, he keeps a strong GC position as 7th. Well done.
But the next stages need to be more selective to really move GC things.
