Tour of Vancouver - Stage 2
Dippofix
i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/profile_zpsd7be0df9.jpg

The race is on here in Vancouver! The weather is relatively mild at 12° C, but the skies are blue. The most interesting thing about the weather though are surely the strong winds, which might make for a very interesting finish. Top favourites for the win here today are Corioni i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ven.png and Kreder i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png.

It takes a little while for the first rider to attack, but Abreu i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png goes for it in the end. He is soon followed by Sequera i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_07_07-Greenshot_zps30f491a9.jpg

Surprisingly, nobody else seems interested in getting in the BotD, so these two men will be out there on their own for today. With 144km to go, the gap is already at 2'52".

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_09_01-Greenshot_zps2725dd5f.jpg

Sequera just about beats Abreu for the first intermediate sprint. Kreder takes the two points remaining for the pack.

Abreu takes the KoM sprint surprisingly easily, distancing Sequera by over 40" in the process. English happens to be the rider leading the peleton as they cross the summit, so that's 1 point for him.

Abreu now has a gap of nearly two minutes to his fellow Venezualean, who is still 2'29" ahead of the pack.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_20_13-Greenshot_zpsa05c7953.jpg

Sequera has obviously lost all interest in this move, as he gets caught by the pack with exactly 100km to go. Abreu is ahead by 3'39" and rising.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_21_46-Greenshot_zps8e9eba2d.jpg

As he takes full points at the intermediate (surprise, surprise), the gap has fallen to 1'52". Kreder again is first in the pack, followed by Vaitkus i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png. Rangel i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png just misses out. Corioni is, for whatever reasons, keeping out of it.

Abreu again takes full points, and again it's English leading the field.

Heineken - Cal Giant are doing all the work in the peleton. Not surprisingly, as Brajkovic holds the lead in every classification bar the U25 one - which is held by Brandt, also riding for them. They have the gap at 1'46" now, with 40km to go.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_31_22-Greenshot_zpsd98c3faa.jpg

Abreu took full points again at the last intermediate, whilst Kreder again beats Vaitkus and Rangel in the pack. Corioni meanwhile is very far to the back.

Split in the peleton! With 15km to go, many riders have been caught behind. No rider within the Top 15 of the GC is in there, but many outsiders for the stage win are. Corioni just about made it to the front part, but many others didn't:

Abreu gets caught just 200 metres before the final KoM, as Lövkvist i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png takes the points ahead of Kappa due Pozzovivo and Penasa

It's mayhem here, splits are occuring all over the place. It's mostly bottle carriers, but in one split Vaitkus loses his whole lead out train. That shouldn't bother him too much, since crosswinds like this should give him an advantage over the not so strongly built sprinters. With 7km to go, 74 riders remain in the peleton.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_47_38-Greenshot_zpse3634760.jpg

As we pass the 5km to go banner, Swedbank are loosely controlling the peleton, eventhough Kreder is quite far behind. This looks like a sprint that could be won by literally anyone, as Vaitkus is the only sprinter positioned in the front third.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_51_10-Greenshot_zpsbe78b284.jpg

As I spoke, Vaitkus stormed to the front and hung on to the wheel of Efimkin, to make a little lead-out train. Corioni is also relatively high up there, but the rest are all GC riders. Kreder is hanging on to a train fo Swedbank riders that are trying to bring him to the front. 3700 metres to go.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_52_54-Greenshot_zpsb06eae4b.jpg

Kreder has been brough to the front and opens up his sprint right away, forcing everyone else to react. You can see Vaitkus on the picture, while a little behind that, we have Rangel on Corionis wheel.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_55_11-Greenshot_zpsf440f46b.jpg

With 2000 metres to go, Kreder is still leading, though Pedraza i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png and Vaitkus are closing in on him. Behind that, Corion is on Niyonshutis i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png wheel, while Eltink i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png and Nazaret i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png are sprinting on the far left.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_56_45-Greenshot_zps098407f4.jpg

With 1400 metres to go, Vaitkus and Rangel are simply sitting in Kreders wheel. To their right, Nazaret has taken Corionis wheel, who is about to pass Pedraza.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0712_59_38-Greenshot_zpsf3caa9fa.jpg

Under the flamme rouge, Vaitkus and Rangel open up their sprint, while Nazaret has completely imploded. Marquez i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/qst.png has come out of nowhere on the far right and could be a real danger to the sprinters.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0713_00_54-Greenshot_zps61336b10.jpg

It looks like it's between Vaitkus and Corioni with 500 metres to go. Marquez is struggling to keep his speed up, while race leader Brajkovic i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png approaches fast from behind.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0713_02_40-Greenshot_zps698dab76.jpg

Brajkovic has stormed in to the lead with 300 metres to go, pulling Pozzovivo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png with him. Could this be a shock second victory?

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0713_04_03-Greenshot_zps1c2e3222.jpg

Yes, he did it! Coming out of nowhere in the last 500 metres of the race, Brajkovic i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cal.png makes it two out of two. What a race for him and his team so far!

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0713_05_27-Greenshot_zpsbba2bd53.jpg

Pozzovivo i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kap.png and Corioni i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ven.png round off the podium. Behind them follow Vatkus i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png, Kreder i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/sbp.png and Rangel i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/afr.png, who will surely all be disappointed not to have made more out of this opportunity.

i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/Dippofix/Man%20Game/Reports/Vancouver/Stage%202/2014-08-0713_06_38-Greenshot_zpsce6cea7d.jpg

Behind them, Marquez i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/qst.png, Pedraza i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png, Kononenko i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png and home team's Simon Yates i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/b3b.png finish in the Top 10. Luckily no GC riders where affected by the crosswinds, though a lot of sprinters were.
