How do you perform a team attack, on a flat stage? For example like the one Team Saxo had performed last year in TdF when Contador gained about 1 minute on Froome.
In my opinion, these kind of attacks are a waste of energy, but they could be useful when you really need to make a gap and you don't have many stages left.
I've tried a team attack by putting my guys to relay as in a team time trial, but the problems are that I will eventually run out of energy and get caught by peleton (which for some reason seems to pace incredibly fast when I am in a breakaway) and my team will get separated, because some guys won't be able to keep up.
Also, is it good to perform the team attack as earlier as possible, because the speed of the peloton won't be that high?
And when you perform the team attack is it better to use the dot than the "Attack"?
And one more thing, if you do something like Cancellara does sometimes: to attack in the last 35-40 km with a guy who is an expert at TT, will you have any chances of succeeding?
Please read again what I have said, especially this part: In my opinion, these kind of attacks are a waste of energy, but they could be useful when you really need to make a gap and you don't have many stages left.
Team Saxo did it too in TdF last year. I just want to know if this mechanic works in the game too.
The only way to create such a team attack is creating echelons. When the wind is hard enough (40+) and comes from the side. If that's the case, make sure your leader is in front and then you go realy with your best riders on the flat, preferably above 73FL and at least one of 76+. Keep that up for a while and you'll see the peloton strechting. After a little while, the first groups will drop. Keep up the pace and more riders will drop.
If:
- stage is hilly (at the best)
- pace was high and peloton is not to big and relatively tired
- You have few fresh helpers
- it is <15 km to finish
When a rider following other attacking rider, using much less red bar. So You can try something like this: 3 riders on dot in order: help2 - leader - help1. Help1 attacks, leader follows help1, help2 follows leader. Help1 burnt out so attack with help2 (which is behind leader), and leader follows help2. When help2 burnt out, leader should have a little more energy and he can attack to the death. Of course You can increase numer of helpers but it will be very hard to synchronize. Acceleration attrib and following synchronization is very important beacause gap between attacker and follower should be minimal. It is tricky and quite hard to do it properly but result can be spectacular.
