Hi all,
I've been noticing this for a while but its happening to me all the time at the moment. Basically whenever I try and get into the breakaway the other riders won't have any of it. It isn't that my man is a danger to anything (24'32" behind in the GC and has no points in the other classifications). Also, its not that the peloton start to chase the group down when he is there- they carry on at the same, relaxed pace. The problem is that all the other riders in the breakaway stop riding whenever I am there. They all come to an almost stop until the peloton catches up then they go on the attack again. I've tried relaying alone until the break has a lead of 5 minutes or more then going to hold position and again nobody wants to ride, they just let the peloton catch us and attack again. I have also tried letting a breakaway go, making sure that they are riding then sending him out to bridge over to them and surprise surprise AS SOON as he gets into the group, they stop riding. Oh and the guy isn't a race favourite whatsoever.
Has anyone else experienced this or have any idea why it is happening? |

I experienced it in my "early" days of PCM. My problem was that my relay effort was too high compared to the other puncheurs. My experience is when you are 3'00" or less in front of the peleton ride with 60 on realy, but when you are more than 3'00" relay on 40. Hope this helps.

I agree with Rogvi. It's not necessarily that they don't want to ride with you, just that you are riding to hard. Personally I never relay in breaks unless it has a chance.

I personally do not relay unless chasing other riders. Or if your guy is a good climber then working hard on a climb can drop other members of the breakaway so it is purely stronger riders only. So just don't relay at all

How do you think he got to heaven

Sarah Palin, 08-03-14 (CPAC, on Russian aggression) : "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with a nuke"
Big thanks to jdog for making this AMAZING userbar!

Thanks for your replies. Its not that I am riding too hard though - i don't ride at all, just sit on the wheels using hold position and we all just end up in a horizontal line across the road until the peleton catches us because nobody is riding. But as I said as soon as I give up and stop trying to get in the break then they all ride together.
Could it be that my guy is too strong and they know they won't beat him for the stage if the break does stay away? |

According to your last post the thread title should be called "Breakaways won't ride for me".
You cannot expect the AI riders to ride for your riders. If you make your rider hold position then don't blame the AI doing the same.
If you want to be part of a sucessful breakaway, your rider has to work too. You can reduce his effort later, when the gap is big enough.
But if you rider is much stronger than the others, they might refuse to work. |

I don't expect them to ride for me. That's not what I mean. When I get in the break I always relay with them until we get a big enough gap that I know we won't be caught. When I say I hold position I'm talking about the times when they won't relay with me. If I notice after a while that nobody else is coming to the front and my rider is the only one working, that's when I switch to hold position / attack off the front / drop back / etc to see what happens. Invariably the result is the same - if I am in the break, they won't help relay and would rather be caught by the peloton, but as soon as I'm not in the break, they all work for each other. |

I got the same problem. It happens when I put the game in hard mode. It's frustrating because it's not like it's in real life. They never ride with me. It's like they never want to attack with a rider of mine, now matter who he is. I think its a serious bug in the game. And it's not about relay putting on 40 like people mention here, they just don't ride at all, even if I put relay on 15, no1 is taking over from me. |

Try weaker riders, try with riders who are further back in the general classification. |
