Olympia's Tour - Stage 3
roturn

2nd sprint stage in the Olympia`s Tour and after yesterdays dominance by the Puma train with the obvious win for Ciolek, the only question is, if another team can challenge them to minor their dominance.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0002.jpg

Three riders in todays breakaway. All of them are within one minute to the GC leader Lo Cicero.

The strongest sprinter in the group, Rathe is taking the first sprint ahead of Golovash and Fouquet in last position.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0012.jpg

Puma and Meiji are the two obvious teams that are chasing the trio. First with the stage favourite and 2nd with another favourite and the GC leader.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0016.jpg

The gap was once up to 7min but due to the peloton being fast at the moment the gap is down to 3min at the 2nd sprint, 70km ahead of the finish.
Golovash here wins the sprint ahead of Rathe.
Fouquet again 3rd only.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0019.jpg

Last couldn`t follow the high pace or did not want to. But we only have a break of two riders now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0024.jpg

And Rathe proving his sprint skills again by taking the 3rd sprint.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0025.jpg

But the more interesting sprint was behind. Lo Cicero, Vantomme and Ciolek all wanted to get those 2 bonus seconds and points.
In the end the race leader takes it with one wheel ahead of yesterdays stage winner and Vantomme.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0032.jpg

Rathe the last rider to be caught by the peloton with 16km to go. We have already reached the town and it`s just about the right position now.
A group of 21 is behind actually and within some crash victims such as:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.png Haga

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Fonseca
So quite a bad day for the CT teams.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0034.jpg

3 real trains, which is actually 2 more than yesterday when not counting Quickstep`s attempt with Meersman only. That said Puma still being the strongest as Shishelov just left the train after bringing them to the front.

1,8km left and pretty much at the same time Giaux, Coquard and Modolo take over. Who will be the strongest leadout?
All behind Lavoine did not make the jump to one of the trains in time and will most likely have no chance to influence the sprint.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0055.jpg

Puma struggles!
Giaux could not deliver as huge leadout as yesterday and sees Coquard and Modolo stronger today.
This leads Vantomme on the left and Lo Cicero in the middle in a very good position while Ciolek is left in 8th position also behind Holloway, Goss and Serebriakov.
Maksimov and Lavoine still behind him.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0061.jpg

Kupfernagel, Swedbank`s trio, Bennett, Thorsen, Vanoverschelde. All beaten today by not finding the right position in time.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0064.jpg

But the action is here as Holloway goes into the lead finding the right way through the other sprinters. Behind him Goss trying to follow him as also Lo Cicero.
Vantomme looking not strong enough to challenge those with Ciolek now being dangerously close behind.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0068.jpg

Holloway still in the lead but Goss and Ciolek come fast. Lo Cicero pretty much the same speed as the US rider.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0070.jpg

But he can keep the speed until the end and wins todays stage. Huge win for him. With Goss coming in 2nd and Lo Cicero taking more bonus seconds as 3rd, this means that he will keep the GC lead but Holloway being within the same time now! This will be very close on the next days.

Ciolek on a slightly disappointing 4th today ahead of Vantomme.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/OlympiasTour/mg2014_olympiatour_3_PCM0071.jpg

Maksimov, Modolo, Serebriakov, Coquard and Giaux next. So lots of leadouts here as they gapped the next group of sprinters. Lavoine though obviously just ran out of energy in the end.
