Hello all PCMDaily members. I'm student of political sciences and i'm writing my licentiate thesis about political and social aspects of the biggest amateur race in east Europe - Peace Tour, known as Zavod Miru/Friedensfahrt/Course de la Paix/Wyścig Pokoju. If you have any information about it, books, pictures, videos or something - please, just copy it here. I will be very grateful for any kind of help. Of course, when I finish these piece of shit i will put it here, but don't expect something gramatically correct, cause i will just copy it to google translate this |

Uhm, nothing really special except some basic wiki and google links. However, it can help so why not.
- https://en.wikiped...Peace_Race
- https://fr.wikiped...de_la_Paix (alot of info here + even few separated race reports!)
- https://de.wikiped...edensfahrt
- https://friedensfa...ahrer.html
- https://www.itf-ra... (not sure about this one, but you should take a look)
- https://www.friede...museum.de/
- https://friedensfa...pler.info/
- https://zmj.cz/
- https://www.velowi...-miru.html
- https://cs.wikiped..._m%C3%ADru
- https://sports.blo...aid=612c19
- https://pl.wikiped...cig_Pokoju
- https://eurosport....koju/tl5eq
- https://www.aleszp...igu-pokoju
- https://naszosie.p...gu-pokoju/
- https://bikecalend...okoju_2014

EDIT: Tons of videos/pictures/results of the race if you just type one of the names. Can't bother myself to do it, as the post would get too long and it can be easily done by yourself.

@admirschleck
Really thank you for some information but i examined these pages, especially these ones in polish languague and i know that there is no professors who like wikipedia most of these pagas contain informations from books which i have already read.
Now i'm in the middle of 50's and writing about first two winners of Peace Tour - August Prosenik and Aleksandar Zoric. Josef Stalin hate Josip Broz - Tito and Yugoslavia riders never again take part in the race |

No problem, it took me few minutes anyways. But you can still find some very useful informations in some of these non-polish links, like few really old reports from that 2nd link, which can help you, I guess.
Hopefully, you'll manage to get a good thesis at the end. Good luck!

Hi SzYnA, nice theme for your thesis, i expect that will be in Polish? Because i would like to read it if it was in English. I saw several stages myself, but that was after year 1995, where old fame of the race was long gone and i was not so international anymore. But i can hardly bring you much more info than you will find in polish or english...
I hope this race can be reinstalled in the future, maybe you can add a passage about future and how it could help the relationship between countries once more, this time without that communism cloud over it?

@admirshleck
You know, i was very surprised when i saw that the article in french wikipedia is bigger than in polish ;O if i have some time i'll try to translate it via google and maybe i will find something interesting.
Hello @Avin!
Yes, i'm writing it in Polish, but as i said before - after all I will copy it to google translate and paste it here I'm working on first chapter of thesis and i want to describe there few things like genesis of the race (as a race from Warsaw to Praha which was a manifesto of 'friendship' between Poland and Chechoslovakia), importance of political propaganda (because as you probably know - in socialism nothing lives seperately from politics) or about the role of censorship and press/TV as a political information carrier.
I'm really happy that there are still few people who know or want to know something about that huge part of european cycling.
Of course, if you want you can ask some questions about it! I will try to answer based on the information that I have.

This sounds really interesting. I am fascinated by the way that politics works with sport (and cycling in particular, given that it is outside and can take part in any portion of the country).
If you are interested in these things then you should read Pedalare! Pedalare! A History of Italian Cycling by John Foot - https://www.amazon...1408822199
It is probably the best cycling book I've ever read. He discusses the way that cycling and cyclists have been used at various different points in Italian history to create meanings. It sounds like his methodology could be of some interest to you. A similar book is Christopher Thompson's The Tour De France: A Cultural History - https://www.amazon...0520256301

@CountArach
Thank you for your advice about the books. I'm not sure that I can find in these books a suitable amount of information about Peace Tour, but if I'm wrong - correct me by the way - licentiate thesis is only about 25-30 so I can't put 'worldwide' information. Now I will focus on three books(of course if i don't find anything else):
-"Sport w służbie polityki. Wyścig Pokoju 1948 - 1989"(Sport in the service of politics" written by Jakub Ferenc.
This book is my base. A lot of information about problems during the race, with organisation, party pressures for organizers, reasons why countries like India or Albania take part in race...really, everything.
- "Wyścig Pokoju w dokumentach władz partyjnych i państwowych 1948 - 1989"(Peace Tour in in communist party and state documents) selected by Artur Pasko
This one is very interesting. A lot of papers, sometimes written by the most important dignitaries of communist party.
- "Wyścig Pokoju 1948-1988" written by Bogdan Tuszyński, who was radio reporter in Polish Radio and work for over 30 years by Peace Tour. This book is more focused on sport than politics, but there is other side of the coin - Polish Radio was tottaly controlled by party, so this journalist can't be unprejudiced.
I'm not sure you can buy any of these books, I rented it from University Library.

There certainly isn't any information on the Peace Tour, but I just thought that their methodology would be useful for you. I'm an historian so I understand how useful it can be to have works from outside your field which are doing similar things to you.
I wish that some of those books were in English because I would love to read them, particularly the first one.

Great! My first plan was writing about cycling "worldwide" - meaning of TdF, Giro or Vuelta for national society, the role of cycling in Basque Country, about globalism in cycling (for example Tour of Beijing or races in Canada i WT calendar) or the MTN Qhubeka project. I think I can try do it in next two years working on my master thesis |
