Tour de Langkawi - Stage 10
roturn

Final stage in Malaysia and despite having a few more hills than previous stages everything but a sprint finish would be a surprise after all 7 flat stages so far were for the sprinters.
Last chance for the winless teams to get one as also the last chance to beat Guillen in the point rankings.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Langkawi/mg2014_langkawi_10_PCM0114.jpg

Again three riders in the breakaway and first on already being in many so far and actually the third time in a row. Some kind of breakaway king in this tour.

ONCE probably happy with the group as the danger to lose the sprinter jersey becomes smaller then. So it`s mainly the other three big sprinter teams chasing the group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Langkawi/mg2014_langkawi_10_PCM0126.jpg

To make that last stage more interesting also the wind decided to be stronger today. So we see some echolons. I guess many managers had hoped to avoid this.
Some gaps open and all GC managers might be happy to see no top15 rider left behind.
Some others though are influenced:

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Langkawi/mg2014_langkawi_10_PCM0131.jpg

Mainly responsible for those echolons are again Fletcher Garneau. Half their team is at the front probably hoping to drop Guillen as well. Behind them lots of Alpina riders hoping to deliver a stage win with Forero.
10km to go on that circuit and only 47 riders left! This is less than the half but still all top sprinters and top15 GC riders included.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Langkawi/mg2014_langkawi_10_PCM0133.jpg

The magic 3,5km mark also today a bad omen for the breakaway as they are caught.
And the 3 sprint trains form again. Only three? Yes. Guillen without an own train today as he is hanging behind the TomTom riders for Vingerling.

2,7km and Vanderaerden with a long leadout for Meyer. Surely they still hope to grab the point jersey on the last stage.
Sinner also hopes to get his first win after quite anonymous first stages but then a 3rd and a 2nd on the last two and decides to switch over behind the Aussie.
In the middle Arango again with a gap with Forero and surprisingly Fernandez behind, while Eefting is leading out Vingerling, Guillen and Awang on the other side.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Langkawi/mg2014_langkawi_10_PCM0148.jpg

1,8km and Meyer with a long sprint.
Sinner in the perfect position behind him while Vingerling, Guillen and Forero are all in the wind now.
That said last one still has Arango a few meters ahead of him.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Langkawi/mg2014_langkawi_10_PCM0153.jpg

Flamme Rouge and Guillen made a huge step forward with Awang behind him.
Forero still the 2nd Alpina rider probably saving most energy so far.
And more interesting. Meyer slowly losing his speed with Sinner going into the lead.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Langkawi/mg2014_langkawi_10_PCM0158.jpg

But the win obviously is decided by these two. Guillen and Awang, the only double stage winner have opened a gap. And while Sinner is still third a surprising strong result by a Euskaltel rider. It`s their GC rider Fernandez, who wants to secure his GC by a good result.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Langkawi/mg2014_langkawi_10_PCM0160.jpg

Guillen can keep Awang behind him and celebrates the 3rd stage win as also the win of the points ranking. Great race for both of those though.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Langkawi/mg2014_langkawi_10_PCM0162.jpg

3rd goes to Sinner, who really had a good last three stages here with three podiums.
4th to Fernandez, who keeps his 9th GC place ahead of Txurruka.
Manarelli 5th ahead of the winless Forero and Opie.
Then Vingerling, a beaten Meyer and Richeze.

More than 2min later the dropped group. But as more or less all important GC riders between 19th and 25th were in there, they all keep their positions.

Rodrigues takes the GC with his dominant win on the Genting Highlands stage ahead of a surprising Masuda and Arroyo.
