Next flat stage and with Manarelli also being in the winner list it`s probably easier to mention those top sprinters, that are still looking for a win as only Guillen was able to win twice.
First to mention must be Forero. Often he is in a good position but lacks the speed/leadout of the other trains with 3-1km to go. In the last kilometer when it is sprinter against sprinter he is one of the fastest reaching some good results. But it`s too late to win the stage.
Then we have Vanderaerden, who looks equally strong as his team mate and stage winner Meyer. Unlucky for him he is used as last leadout and still beating the Aussie in some sprints. So when going for him a second sprint could be possible but a role change is unlikely to happen.
Also the likes of Opie
Dall'Antonia
Richeze Uugunbayar
or Sinner could have the speed but without a sprint train they might lack a bit.
So who will take the 9th stage? Someone new or a previous winner?
A trio to form the group. All 3 have been in previous groups and are well known in this race:
Manfredi
Rusli
Guozhang
Same procedure as every time. Breakaway against sprinter teams. So far the sprinter teams won every single time. And also today it`s looking good for them as the gap of 4'30 is slowly going backwards again with 72km to go.
And indeed they are caught. Again late. Only 3,3km were missing for them.
Forero really wants the win and he is going all in today with a fast sprinter train trying to let the others suffer behind him.
It`s good to see that in especially the ONCE and Fletcher train can`t really form due to the high pace. Perfect situation though for the riders behind the Alpina train such as Awang, Vingerling, Sinner or Uugunbayar.
Rodriguez Parra Arango Forero- Stenuit Awang Eefting Vingerling Sinner Uugunbayar Gajek Djurdiic Manarelli Richeze Clavero Haller Dall'Antonia Opie Herrada Cano Vanderaerden Meyer Guillen
Arango goes into the lead with 1,7km to go. Forero though not going too early and keeps a gap to him.
Guillen looks beaten. But at least he found Cano`s wheel now. Also the green jerseys of Fletcher are far behind.
Arango still in the lead. And now Forero also has to go into the wind which is a huge dilemma for him as he is perfectly leading out Awang this way.
On the left Vanderaerden with Meyer and a bit behind Cano with Guillen.
On the right Vingerlin, Sinner, Uugunbayar or Gajek.
500m and still Arango. If only Forero was able to hold his wheel today.
He is at least in 2nd position now surrounded by two fast Fletcher sprinters. Also Awang in the first row with Vingerling, Sinner behind.
Arango can`t keep that pace and gets dropped.
Also Forero seems to be too slow in the end.
Awang, Meyer and Sinner the fastest now with Vingerling also having chances as also Guillen who is in 9th position already.
Close call. Vingerling 3rd is obvious as Meyer slowed down in the end.
But who did win?
Awang or a very strong Sinner today, who has a nice improvement here? Yesterday already 3rd, now at least one spot above.
The rider usually knows it the best as also the photo finish proved it. Awang takes his 2nd stage win in his home race. But it was close 1m longer and Sinner probably would have taken it. 10m more and Vingerling probably would have won.
Meyer as 4th again ahead of Guillen, which makes it an very interesting last stage as they only have a 8 point differential. Also Vingerling or even Forero are not out yet.
Clavero as 5th with his best performance today while Forero only finishes 6th ahead of Guillen.
Dall'Antonia, Arango and Djurdjic also top10 today.
