Tour of Oman - Stage 1
roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0001.jpg

Stage one in Oman might be the easiest without any real difficulty. The first half though is going uphill a bit but on very low percentages. So anything but a sprinter taking the leader jersey today would be a surprise.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png Kupfernagel, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bbk.png Hutarovich and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pbn.png Vanoverschelde are the top favourites.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0004.jpg

4 riders in todays break. But actually their gap is only at 50s and not really growing a lot.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Herklotz
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/csc.png Domene
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/fcb.png Gradek
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mac.png Lemus Davila

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0010.jpg

On the Cat.4 KoM though the gap finally got a bit bigger with Gradek being the strongest followed by Domene and young future great Herklotz.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0012.jpg

Next to BelarusBank, who surely want to see a sprint finish today, it`s mainly the GC teams of Heineken, Quickstep and Bacardi to control the peloton and the gap to the breakaway.
110km and only 3'40 in between the groups.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0014.jpg

Same 3 riders in different order at the first sprint. Domene ahead of Herklotz and Gradek. Lemus Davila again without any reward.
And actually last lost contact here and will soon be back in the peloton.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0017.jpg

The sprinter teams woke up and so BelarusBank is supported by Privatbank, Karcher and still Bacardi, who have Aberasturi here as well for good stage results next to their GC ambitions.
Seeing that Clarke and Polivoda already work here with 40km to go, this might hurt their train building in the end.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0020.jpg

Herklotz takes the 2nd and last sprint of the day ahead of Domene and Gradek. This might deliver them decent GC positions after todays stage actually.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0022.jpg

Despite his low experience, Herklotz already proves to be an excellent fighter showing a bit of his talent today. As last breakaway rider he is ahead of the peloton but with 11km to go the gap is really small and he probably can`t hold on.
2km later his attempt is over and the sprinter teams form their trains.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0025.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png Samokhvalov
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bac.png Aberasturi
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png Karpetsi439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/mei.png Nateghi
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png Sousa
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kar.png Kupfernagel
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/kzi.png Nepomnyachsniyi439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Nelson
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rep.png Andriato
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/amx.png Keough

Actually we see 4 trains here but as Privatbank seems to look very strong, the others struggle a bit. In especially Kupfernagel`s train looks horrible with two climbers trying to bring him in position.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0038.jpg

That`s a small surprise.
Clarke with a huge leadout after doing some work during his stage. Hutarovich just behind him in a perfect position now.
Also Bacardi is coming on the other side with Nepomnyachsniy in their slipstream.
But what happened here with the Privatbank train?
When Vaitkus was in the lead, Vanoverschelde looked totally exhausted and couldn`t follow.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0043.jpg

Vaitkus in front now. What a performance by him. But also Hutarovich is starting his sprint.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0046.jpg

It`s between those two most likely.
Nepo, Aberasturi, Kupfernagelm Vanoverschelde and others have found their second air but already have quite a gap.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Man%20Game%202014/Tour%20of%20Oman/mg2014_oman_1_PCM0047.jpg

And it`s Hutarovich. On the last meters he takes profit from being in the wind later and goes past Vaitkus to take the win and the leader jersey.
Vaitkus at least proved to be a very valuable sprinter here if used as one of course. Eventually the team should let Vanoverschelde leadout him and he could deliver big time.

Aberasturi with a nice 3rd ahead of weakly placed Kupfernagel today. A lot more would have been possible without that train.
Vanoverschelde with a late sprint as 5th ahead of Nepomnyachsniy.
Andriato, Nelson, Keough and Van Hummel to complete the top10.

GC wise the breakaway was able to stay inside the peloton in the end moving them up the ranking a lot. Herklotz as 3rd best placed.
