From the 17th of Febraury to the 24th of Febraury it's time again for the Amgen tour of California, ofcourse the big favorite to win it is Levi Leipheimer, as he just heard he wont go back to france and defend his podium place, he and his teammates now have to show their qualities in other races, like the Tour of California.
Stages:
1st: Palo Alto- Palo Alto, prologue over 3km.
2nd: Sausalito - Santa Rosa, flat stage with some small hills, 156 km
3th: Santa Rosa - Sacramento. Some mountains in the beginning but the last three quarter of the stage is flat... 187km
4th: Modesto - San José, pretty nasty mountain stage, 152 km
5th: Seaside - San Luis Obispo, by far longest stage with pretty nasty hill in the end, 217km
6th: Solvang - Solvang, a pretty hilly TT, 24 km..
7th: Santa Barbara - Santa Clarita, pretty nasty mountain stage, 175 km
8th: Santa Clarita - Pasadena, mountains in the beginning, last half flat, 150km
Favourites:
Levi Leipheimer
Jens Voigt & Robert Gesink
Janez Brajkovic, George Hincapie & Kim Kirchen

As I live just down the road from Greenville, SC where Hincappie lives, I hope he does well. If he wins there might actually be an article about cycling in the newspaper.
*gasp* |

Well, we only get stuff only when Hincappie prospers.
The year he wore the yellow for a day we got a lot of TDF stuff until it went into the mountains and he fell back.
We also got some Tour of California coverage back in 2006 when he won a couple of stages. |

Scotty Nydam better win the stage into Santa Rosa for his father. And for favorites I would also put Zabriskie, Danielson, Horner (will be working for Levi) Ben Jauques-Mayne, Bobby J, Darren Lill is supposed to be flying, Phil Zajicek, Andy Bajadali

As a long time Tom Danielson fan, I'm hoping that he'll be able to show his true abiltities this year. New team, new attitude. He's always been a great climber and good at TT but injuries and lack of European opportunities with Disco make him a bit of peloton rookie.
As for the T of C. Astana is pissed, so expect to see a lot of them. CSC will be strong again. Quick Step intrigues me, they seem to have brought out some pretty good fire power. |

His true abilities? When did he ever show his "true abilities"? I suppose his true ablities equals the over-expectations people have had for him, but which he has never lived up to |

I second that He's not really young anymore so if he wants to show his ''True Abilities''
he'd better be fast

I'm not saying he'll ever be a top GC contender, but with his climbing abilities (see his hill climbing records) he could suprise some people, maybe even pull off a few stage wins here and there. There is no reason he couldn't win the Tours of Cali and Georgia, and a top 15 in the Giro isn't out of the question, especially since it's so mountain heavy this year. |

Jonathan Vaughters thinks he can be one of the best climbers in the world this year. I doubt it but his coach has faith in him. |

I don't think he was ever given a good opportunity with Disco. I'll even throw out the conspiracy that LA held him up a bit because he knew that TD could out climb him (and I'm a LA fan), and was showing tremendous improvement in TT. His biggest knock has always been peloton presence. |

Speaking of Favorites I was driving home from Healdsburg today and saw a cyclist riding in the opposite direction. I didn't realize who it was till I got close enough to see the face of Levi Leipheimer on his TT bike in his Astana Kit

I live near Santa Clarita, so I'm hoping to get down there for the finish on Saturday. Should be a great race! |

He only has 2006 Vuelta for me..I know that Lance years ago..wanted him to be like mini me..didnt work out. Sry about Danielson last year..that was TdF debut year wich didnt work out.
Slipstream need GC rider..at least I would give him chance...there is time for him show something. |
