New Zealand Cycle Tour - Stage 4
cio93
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Stage4_zpsc9e12ba8.jpg

Two laps of a scenic route through the countryside will be ridden today with 10 KoM points and some bonus seconds on offer throughout the 112 kilometres long stage.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Cam Meyer looks to repeat yesterday's win to go for yellow, while there are lots of rather unsuccessful sprinters around that would love to take more ranking points home.

Again, we get an early break the peloton is content with in those rainy conditions.

Hoping for a better result than being caugth with 1000 metres to go like yesterday are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Pranata, while the new additions are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Wu, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Borges and the two Edmondsons in i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/esc.png Joshua and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/evo.png Alexander, who is the best placed from these six riders already more than 17 minutes down.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0001_zps73cbf09d.jpg

Alpina looks motivated by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Forero's good result yesterday and control the pace for now.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0002_zps83f33cd7.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau is the only rider in the break that already collected KoM points, and he takes 5 more the first time up Valley Road, though he was challenged by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Pranata. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Borges rolls over as third.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0003_zpsd7063e5b.jpg

KoM 1: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Pranata i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Borges

The sprint is uncontested and goes to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Wu ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/esc.png J. and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/evo.png A. Edmondson.
Apparently, the chase is not on yet and the gap up to 7 minutes.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0005_zps82a8b119.jpg

Int 1: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Wu i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/esc.png J. Edmondson i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/evo.png A. Edmondson

The next KoM yields the same result on the front two positions, which sees i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau getting rather close to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Veilleux in that competition now. He does need more points tomorrow if he wants the jersey, though.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0006_zps6829d6d0.jpg

KoM 2: i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Pranata i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Wu

As we take a look at what's going on in the bunch, we see it's nothing!
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Alpina still leads, but you can guess what the banner on the right means: the break leads by 5 uphill kilometres or 9'45".
With about an hour left to ride, we can safely assume this stage won't go to Meyer or any other sprinter.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0007_zpsc8982731.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau is by far the worst sprinter in the group, while all others are actually decent with noone standing out.
He knows that as well and latches onto i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Pranata when he attacks the group for the first time with a little bit more than 10k to go.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0008_zpsc9c85c8b.jpg

They quickly open a gap of 20 seconds and work together rather well.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0009_zpsc0494c22.jpg

While all eyes are focused on the breakaway fighting for the win, we have to take a quick look back to the peloton as we hear riders are down!

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0028_zps56498612.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Hochmann went down in the front rows while rather needlessly fighting to get i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Serebriakov to the front, and that takes is toll in the hardest possible way as besides i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Veilleux, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Vaquera, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/hrc.png van der Sanden and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tas.png Takenouchi, his captain i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ano.png Serebriakov is affected as well!

And as fate wants it, while most get up and ride on, the Russian indeed has to abandon.
Hard times ahead in the Ameriabank hotel and HQ for sure.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0029_zpsdb1f02c0.jpg

Back to the BotD.
We're getting close to sprinting distance and the front two managed to keep that advantage.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Wu sees his chances floating away in the distance and wants to attack across.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0010_zpsfb517753.jpg

At the front, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau knows he can't lead out i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Pranata to an easy win and attacks him as well.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0011_zps468de270.jpg

While i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau establishes a small gap, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Wu catches up to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Pranata.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0013_zpsd88457de.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Borges is actually the first to open his sprint and wants to get back into contention, while the Edmondson's can't follow that acceleration.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0015_zps2c317a7d.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau gets caught under the kite for the second day in a row and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Borges is flying on the left as the leading two don't seem to find the extra gear.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0017_zpsfb90ddea.jpg

And indeed i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Wu leaves i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Pranata's wheel to late to prevent i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Borges taking the lead.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0018_zps87b417be.jpg

And he can't match the speed of the Portuguese rider as they near the line.
The two namesakes missed the right moment to follow, and despite them being the fastest on the road right now, they can only hope to at least catch i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.png Lindau.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0020_zpsdd366135.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/bon.png Borges keeps the advantage and takes the win. What a great sprint from far out, noone could go faster than him today.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cpl.png Wu becomes a safe second while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/esc.png Joshua Edmondson shows what he threw away today by nearly getting ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/spr.png Pranata on the line, but the Indonesian finally capitalizes on his frequent breakaway appearances by at least taking third.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0021_zpsf4af4c9d.jpg
i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0022_zpsb2af42e4.jpg

The sprint for seventh is lead by Alpina for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/alp.png Forero, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.png Meyer left a gap and do not seem to care too now that he lost a valuable opportunity to gain bonus seconds.

i1050.photobucket.com/albums/s408/Cio1993/Man-Game/New/NZ4/PCM0024_zps00a6384a.jpg

In the end, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Matthews wins this sprint more than 5 minutes in arrears.
