Two laps of a scenic route through the countryside will be ridden today with 10 KoM points and some bonus seconds on offer throughout the 112 kilometres long stage.
Cam Meyer looks to repeat yesterday's win to go for yellow, while there are lots of rather unsuccessful sprinters around that would love to take more ranking points home.
Again, we get an early break the peloton is content with in those rainy conditions.
Hoping for a better result than being caugth with 1000 metres to go like yesterday are Lindau and Pranata, while the new additions are Wu, Borges and the two Edmondsons in Joshua and Alexander, who is the best placed from these six riders already more than 17 minutes down.
Alpina looks motivated by Forero's good result yesterday and control the pace for now.
Lindau is the only rider in the break that already collected KoM points, and he takes 5 more the first time up Valley Road, though he was challenged by Pranata. Borges rolls over as third.
KoM 1: Lindau Pranata Borges
The sprint is uncontested and goes to Wu ahead of J. and A. Edmondson.
Apparently, the chase is not on yet and the gap up to 7 minutes.
Int 1: Wu J. Edmondson A. Edmondson
The next KoM yields the same result on the front two positions, which sees Lindau getting rather close to Veilleux in that competition now. He does need more points tomorrow if he wants the jersey, though.
KoM 2: Lindau Pranata Wu
As we take a look at what's going on in the bunch, we see it's nothing!
Alpina still leads, but you can guess what the banner on the right means: the break leads by 5 uphill kilometres or 9'45".
With about an hour left to ride, we can safely assume this stage won't go to Meyer or any other sprinter.
Lindau is by far the worst sprinter in the group, while all others are actually decent with noone standing out.
He knows that as well and latches onto Pranata when he attacks the group for the first time with a little bit more than 10k to go.
They quickly open a gap of 20 seconds and work together rather well.
While all eyes are focused on the breakaway fighting for the win, we have to take a quick look back to the peloton as we hear riders are down!
Hochmann went down in the front rows while rather needlessly fighting to get Serebriakov to the front, and that takes is toll in the hardest possible way as besides Veilleux, Vaquera, van der Sanden and Takenouchi, his captain Serebriakov is affected as well!
And as fate wants it, while most get up and ride on, the Russian indeed has to abandon.
Hard times ahead in the Ameriabank hotel and HQ for sure.
Back to the BotD.
We're getting close to sprinting distance and the front two managed to keep that advantage.
Wu sees his chances floating away in the distance and wants to attack across.
At the front, Lindau knows he can't lead out Pranata to an easy win and attacks him as well.
While Lindau establishes a small gap, Wu catches up to Pranata.
Borges is actually the first to open his sprint and wants to get back into contention, while the Edmondson's can't follow that acceleration.
Lindau gets caught under the kite for the second day in a row and Borges is flying on the left as the leading two don't seem to find the extra gear.
And indeed Wu leaves Pranata's wheel to late to prevent Borges taking the lead.
And he can't match the speed of the Portuguese rider as they near the line.
The two namesakes missed the right moment to follow, and despite them being the fastest on the road right now, they can only hope to at least catch Lindau.
Borges keeps the advantage and takes the win. What a great sprint from far out, noone could go faster than him today.
Wu becomes a safe second while Joshua Edmondson shows what he threw away today by nearly getting ahead of Pranata on the line, but the Indonesian finally capitalizes on his frequent breakaway appearances by at least taking third.
The sprint for seventh is lead by Alpina for Forero, while Meyer left a gap and do not seem to care too now that he lost a valuable opportunity to gain bonus seconds.
In the end, Matthews wins this sprint more than 5 minutes in arrears.
