They are leading it because they won the team rank in Tour Down Under.

Yup, the Teams ranking is only affected the teams classification at each race

Isn't it the sum of all team rankings per stage, plus a bonus for the final team ranking (per time or per position) ?

If i'm not mistaken, the teams get 20 points for first place in the teams classification in a stage race, 19 for second, 18 for third, etc. More than that for more important stage races.
For classics it's a bit more complicated. the way points are given is the same, but the the way the team's classification for each individual race is decided is strange:
each team gets a certain number of "points" (I'm usin the " sign because they're not real points. they don't count for the ProTour ranking) for each of it's 3 best placed riders, with of course more "points" for better placed riders. The team that has more "points" is first on the teams classification for that event, and as such gets 20 real points, meaning points that actually count for the ProTour ranking.
the team with the second most "points" gets 19 real points for the ranking. etc.
sorry if it's confusing but in english there's only one word for points, so i had to differ between "points" and real points that actually count for the ProTour ranking

Yeah, I know how it works for classics. To make it more simple, the first rider scores one point, the second two points, etc. You count the number of points per team by adding the number of points of the three first riders of the team. The team with the lesser points gets twenty points for the PT teams classification, the second team gets 19. In case of tight the team whose first rider got the best position gets the more points.
What I was actually asking was 'do stages also count for Pro Tour team classification' ? |

I think it's quite good that way, now teams will care more for the teams classifications
