David Millar was the 3rd to ride and he took an early lead, although he would eventually finish 17th. Markus Fothen took the lead from him by 2 seconds but would also finish outside of the top 10.
Plaza went 12 seconds quicker before the Italian favourite Paolo Savoldelli went a further 26 seconds faster.
A dangerous trio of riders soon came in to the finish: Rogers, Zabriskie, and Dekker. Rogers could not go quicker than Savoldelli, but Zabriskie could - by 20 seconds!
Dekker went 2nd, only just ahead of Savoldelli.
Rider after rider went by, Brajkovic and Vinokourov netted top 10 times, but not enough to give them a medal. 15 riders after Dekker crossed the line, came the only man capable of beating Zabriskie.
And Cancellara did it! Taking a slender 7 second lead!
Its not over yet though, with the retiring Bobby Julich, reigning champion Robert Gesink and Olympic champion Vladimir Karpets still to come.
It is Julich's final TT of his career, he had featured high up in TTs throughout the season but he was unable to produce even a respectable time and will finish 35th out of the 40 riders.
Gesink failed to repeat his worlds victory going in 10th, pushed down to 11th as Karpets finished, but the Russian only took 8th.
Cancellara is the new World Champion!

Only thing that could affect it is that the weather is different in April-August than it is in September-Marts...
