Meiji have now had 2 seasons in the Pro Continental Tour under our belts and after a wobbly first season, our 2nd season was a lot more successful! With the additions of Jianhua Ji and Tommy Zaini, the team had a lot more success in important races for the team! Without the addition of those two riders the season would have been very lack luster as far as results go!
Cannondale is also happy to return for another year with the Japanese outfit! For years Cannondale have been supporting grassroots cycling in Japan and even backed another Japanese professional team a few years ago. Contrary to last year however, the American sponsor doesn't require Meiji to have any Americans on the team at all! This means it will be unlikely that Meiji will have any Americans on the roster for the 2014 season. The American Sponsor wanted atleast one big star on the team last year, and they got that wish with Tommy Zaini! This season will again be all about signing the best there is to offer in Asia!
Main Sponsors:
- Meiji
- Cannondale
Minor Sponsors
- Pasmo
- Suica
- D'Angelo & Antenucci (Monetary)
- Champion Systems
Equipment Sponsors
- Cannondale (Bikes)
- Giro (Helmets)
- Shimano (Wheels)

Here are our initial plans heading into Renewals! No surprise to see the list of riders that will be staying with the team! Zaini, Ji and Arashiro are probably the 3 most popular riders on the team and will all be staying another year!
In terms of those that may leave are probably more interesting for the media and other teams! Manan and Kwok are probably the biggest names, but a very good offer would have to be put on the table for either of them to leave! Santambrogio and Modolo are being shopped simply because the team wants to put more of a focus back into Asian cycling, and since neither were very productive last season, they may leave this season!
Meiji are also looking to find deals for 3 riders, the first being Bauer a strong TT rider who also likes to go onto the attack! Shimizu is a climber with lots of experience and may be the perfect rideer for a CT team looking for a leader. If the team has an Asian Focus he may be even more desirable to have! And finally, Nateghi a strong Iranian sprinter who may also be a desirable rider for an Asian Focused team!
Chen Shikai is a future talent for China and is looking to gain experience in the ProTour this year! He is one of Asia's brightest talents and is hoping to improve over the course of the season! We would really like for him to reach his Max by the end of the upcoming season and he will need to ride in the PT, and hopefully a Grand Tour in order to do so!
And lastly, we would like to thank, Yuzuru Suzuki and Taiji Nishitani for their time with the team! It wasn't easy letting them go, but we think they might be able to find new teams this year, and play a bigger part in their success if that team is in the Continental Tour!
Staying
| Yukiya Arashiro | | Yukihiro Doi | | Yusuke Hatanaka | | Tomohiro Hayakawa | | Yoshimitsu Hiratsuka | | Tomoyuki Iino | | Kenji Itami | | Jianhua Ji | | Tomohiro Kinoshita | | Junpei Murakami | | Wataru Mutsumine | | Gian Piero Signorini | | Tommy Zaini |
Staying - Might Sell (Good Offer Required)
| Fumiyuki Beppu | | Ho-Ting Kwok | | Anuar Manan | | Sascha Modolo | | Sung Baek Park | | Junya Sano | | Mauro Santambrogio |
Staying - Welcoming Offers
| Jack Bauer | | Hossein Nateghi | | Miyataka Shimizu |
Undecided
| Sergei Lagutin |
Looking for PT Loan
| Chen Shikai |
Leaving
| Taiji Nishitani | | Yuzuru Suzuki |

Meiji Announce 2014 Goals!
• Asian Tour Rankings: Win
• Tour of Japan (C1): Win
• Japan Cup (HC): Top 5
• Tour of Beijing (HC): Top 5
• Down Under Classic (HC): Top 10
Meiji are happy to announce our goals for the season! We feel that every one of the goals set are achievable and they are also indicative of the teams growth over the course of its two seasons! The Asian Rankings are extremely important to the team and we expect a big challenge this season from other teams, just like the last! If everything goes to plan, we hope to defend the Asian Rankings title! Two more extremely important goals to the team are the Tour of Japan and Japan Cup races! We hope to win the Tour of Japan and we think with Ji that will be possible, while at the Japan Cup we think Zaini should be able to finish in the Top 5. The final two goals are important to the team because we feel they are "fail-safe" as long as our transfer season doesn't go too badly.

Modolo just jumped several positions on our leadout shortlist, which is one of our most important ones this year.
Thus, expect a serious inquiry come transfers.
If you could imagine your target region to possibly include Kazakhstan, Shishelov is a rider we could swap out, otherwise we look to make a decent money offer.

While Meiji would not say no to the right Kazakh rider, we would like to say that we have almost no interest in Shishelov, and therefore it would probably be more beneficial for both parties if he was left out of any possible deal once the transfer season begins. That is not to say a deal cant be reached with him included, however the valuation of him from Meiji's perspective is not all that high.

Sources close to Bjartne stated to the media that Compal are considering riders listed as staying. Arashiro, Kinoshita and Hatanaka are some of the riders mentioned in the newspaper, mainly because Compal are looking for top puncheurs and sprinters from their region of interests.

Heineken very much enjoyed having Jack Bauer on the team last year. Kiwi media have reported that making that switch permanent is on the Murrican team's agenda.

In response to Compal, a deal involving any of the 3 mentioned riders are extremely unlikely. Kinoshita is thought to be untouchable according to sources and Arashiro and Hatanaka are both stars of Japanese cycling, riders that Meiji would like to hold on to. Of those 3, the only one that has more than a .0000001% chance of leaving is Hatanaka but reports indicate the asking price is much too high for a manager with any sense to justify paying
Meanwhile, Meiji would like to thank Heineken for taking on Jack last season and look forward to working out a deal once the transfer window opens. However, interest is thought to be high for Jack Bauer this season and its hard to say where he may end up!

Thank you for your prompt response, we respect your nationality focus and will stop unsettling any of your Japanese riders. However, we may wan't to start talks in the transfer season regarding other Asian Meiji-riders we have targeted. |

Well its hard to let a rider like Kinoshita go, however someone like Sano could be on the move, so you dont have to leave "all" Japanese riders alone. We would like to keep the core together though and keep it predominantly Japanese at that!
We look forward to discussions during the transfer season!

Rumour has it that newly-formed Maloja Mountain Nomads have Miyataka Shimizu on their shortlist as a possible leader for their climbing-orientated squad. While the Japanese would certainly be a good fit, it is questionable whether the Germany-based team will be able to compete with teams whose focus is on the Asian market and who might be willing to spend more to acquire a rider from their main region. Nevertheless, Maloja seems to be keeping a close eye on him during transfer season.

Meiji Release 2014 Jersey
With the season only weeks away, it was time to officially reveal the jersey for the upcoming season! Meiji's Head designer aidanvn13 made what we believe to be Meiji's finest jersey yet! In collaboration with Champion Systems who provided all of the material, it has the famous Gold and Black Design with Pink and Green representing the Pasmo and Suica sponsorships.

2 Fast and Furious Italian Sprinters Join
With the conclusion of the weekend, in the Man Game Transfer Season the first signings are popping up for all the teams. The first of the transfers have started to become official and in total, two transfers have become official for Meiji.
The two riders joining?
Danilo Napolitiano and Ivano Lo Cicero
Napolitiano is the highest ranked PCT rider from last season that didn't move up to the PT with a promoted team, with a 4th place finish last year. Does this mean he will challenge for the #1 Individual Ranking this year? We can only hope so! An influx of sprinters has hit the PCT but we believe Napolititano will remain one of the best in the PCT. His main stats are obviously his sprinting stats. With an 82 in SPR and ACC he is going to be tough to beat on a flat day. His ability to get over hills has been a question, but in comparison to most other top sprinters he is about the same. He is getting old, but he believes he has one great season left in him maybe two, and Meiji will look to get the most out of his legs!
Lo Cicero is the infamous sprinter who last year struggled. He achieved a huge wage through free agency and some would say he did not live up to his expectations. In a straight line, Lo Cicero is probably Top 5 in the world and we will be looking to have him as a one-two punch alongside Danilo. Lo Cicero has a sprint stat of 84 and an ACC of 78. The stat that lets him down the most is his Hills stat which is a 59. Ivano has been convinced by Meiji's brilliant boss to train on hills during the off-season. If he follows the plan put in place, he could be a hard sprinter to beat next season and thats everything the manager hopes for. The worst case scenario with him, is that he only scores about 500 points like last season, but we believe the training will heavily benefit him.
Please everyone, join me in welcoming these two riders into the team!

Meiji Accomplish 1st Goal of the Season
With the new cycling season only hours into its existence, it didn't take long for Meiji to accomplish our first goal of the season! The Down Under Classic had much anticipation with many teams hoping to get a win to start off their year. The sprinters classics are going to be highly contested and maybe the most "wide open" in terms of who can win, for the entire year, which meant many teams had hopes of winning this race, and certainly Meiji had the same hopes as many others.
The two Italian Stallions for Meiji were both favourites for the win, and so Meiji were quite confident of achieving our goal going into the race, but of course cycling is very unpredictable and you never know what will happen.
The sprint began with Napolitiano making the first charge for the team
The line comes close now and Lo Cicero and Napolitiano are both near the front!
From the overhead with only about 20m's left Lo Cicero is in the front and Napolititano is about 6th or 7th. Lo Cicero could get the win for Meiji, but its going to be close and Kupfernagel is charging fast!
And in the end, Lo Cicero is just nicked on the line by Kupfernagel but a 2nd place is Meiji's best ever result at the Down Under Classic and Napolitiano was also able to finish in the Top 10, in 9th place, so you could say we X2ed our goal, and lets hope the sponsors think so as well, when deciding next years budget
Congrats to Karcher, and of course we hope to get our first win of the year at the Tour Down Under in just a few days from now!
