We reach the final race in the 2013 national championships - the Spanish races! One of the biggest nations in cycling, the road race and time-trial promise to be highly contested, with plenty of riders wanting to grab the national title.
We begin with the road race, one of three held with mountainous routes. That means that the winner of the two previous editions, Gil, will struggle to replicate his exploits. A new winner could be on the cards.
The big favourite is Tour de France winner Madrazo, who will hope to end a drought of this title for Santander over recent years. Those who are the favourites to stop him are teammate Tenorio, who won La Vuelta this year, Intxausti and Contador.
The race soon gets underway. Soon a small group of four riders go up the road, forming the day's breakaway. Involved are Rovira, Aramendia, Rojas and Landa.
Santander and CSC keep the attackers at an arms length though, and the gap is at 5 minutes with 150 kilometres to go.
It's at this point that minor favourite Plaza decides to launch a crazy solo attack! Should be interesting how it works out for sure, with over half of today's racing still remaining.
Soon Plaza bridges up to the break, making it a five-man group up the road. The Prio rider immediately hits the front.
This slows the peloton's progress a little, holding the gap at 6 minutes for a few kilometres. Santander soon send up some reinforcements though, and the gap is coming down again, albeit slowly.
Meanwhile, at the front, with 50 kilometres left Plaza has dropped the original breakaway members, and holds a 4 minute gap. He'll have to go solo from here on in.
As the chase carries on behind the group is thinned to 12 riders, with 20 kilometres to go. Marquez is trying a small dig on the front when the gap drops to under a minute up to Plaza.
That move is closed down though, leaving room for Tenorio to attack!
He is also pulled back though, along with Plaza. The front group, now containing 13 riders, including all the favourites, will fight for the win on the final climb.
With five kilometres left everything is still together. Madrazo sets a high tempo on the front.
Soon the Tour champion realises this isn't the way to ride, with many strong climbers on his wheel. Instead he releases a vicious attack, which only Intxausti can follow!
Even he can't stay with Madrazo though, and the biggest rider in Spain looks like he will become national champion, being so strong uphill.
He does! Madrazo doesn't have enough energy to raise his arms, but he takes the national title nonetheless in style.
Inxausti finishes second almost a minute down, with Tenorio further back in third. Madrazo was simply too strong today. Santander finally take this title.
Next up we have the time-trial, which will see the riders tackle this flat course. Plenty of candidates for victory here, who could potentially grab the title. Tenorio, Vuelta winner, is the favourite though due to his well-known abilities against the clock.
First person to set an interesting time is Sanchez, who manages to set a time of 59'39", which is 47 seconds faster than the previous best time set by Lloret.
Surprisingly, this holds up against some of the more fancied men, with Abal and Intxausti both unable to pass Sanchez's time.
Soon we have RR winner Madrazo coming in... and he can't beat the leading time! The Tour winner finishes 23 seconds down on the Project 1t4i rider.
Setting off second-to-last is Plaza. He tried a crazy 150 kilometre solo-attack in the RR, but is more of a favourite here. He proves that to be right; his time is 59'26", which surpasses Sanchez's time by 13 seconds and puts him into the lead.
Still to come though is Tenorio - the big favourite!
As he powers around the course, it's never in doubt really. He justifies his tag, by beating Plaza by 17 seconds at the finish! His time of 59'09" is enough to take the Spanish title.
Congrats to Santander then - they take the double here! Great races for them which give them the red and yellow jerseys, which their leaders Tenorio and Madrazo will wear in 2014.
