Slovakia welcomes it's best cyclists (8 riders) for a hilly 110km road race and a flat timetrial - who's going to be Slovakia's next superstar?
A spectacular startlist featuring 4 brothers and 8 riders in total - Peter and Jurej Sagan, as well as Peter and Martin Velits will be also amongst the top-favorites for both road race and TT..
We know the deal in such a small field though - the break of the day would be the crucial move most likely.. 3 riders made it:
Gavenda (PFG)
Kolar (Magna)
Canecky (Milka)
The remaining 4 brothers (and Vysna) won't pay much attention and spend (almost) the entire race chatting to each other. Peter Sagan tells some jokes and Matej Vysna doesn't say a single word..
..the group would later quit the race in order to save just more energy for the timetrial.
So it's up to one of the three riders in the leading group now.. they reach the short finishing climb alltogether, as Kolar (who gave it a try earlier) is caught back right in time!
It's a close decision between Gavenda and Canecky, with the first holding off the latter succesfully! A great achievement for him, obviously.
The flat timetrial may be as close as the decision in the road race - but the big guns are likely to go for glory now.. Martin and Peter Velits are the very top-favorites without any question..
Martin Velits (Rothaus) may hope for a shot at the title - he's 7" behind brother Peter at the split though.. will he fight back?
He tried, but Peter Velits (1t4i) is simply too strong today - he gains more seconds on Martin and wins the TT-title by 18" on his brother and 1'04" on 3rd Juraj Sagan.
