Before Khalilikhosroshani won stage 5, propelling him into 3rd overall. Not bad, considering it's a C1 race!

Martinez riding to victory on stage 5 of the Giro del Capo. That secured our only achieved goal of 2013, with him finishing 5th overall.

Win La Tropicale Amissa Bongo

Our race win goal this year us in Gabon, at La Tropicale Amissa Bongo in April. 'Just' a C1 race, but one that holds significance for the team after we got 2 stage wins and a surprise top three overall last year. With a top African puncheur on our list, why not aim for the win this time around?

Top 5 Strade Bianchi

Another hilly race, this time a classic and a HC one as well - this will be a tough one to achieve on the white roads of Toscana. As you can see for 2014 we are aiming for the hills, so this seemed a good goal as a famous hilly classic with plenty of history. A top five would be a nice way to showcase our team in Europe.

Top 5 Tour of South Africa

A third hilly goal for the team which a prospective pucheur would aim for. One of just two African HC races, this had to be a goal. There is often unpredictable racing here, if we look on evidence from the past, so anything is possible with the right riders.

Top 10 Kenya Moutain Classic

One of the more obvoious goals for the team. With this being a HC race and also being on home turf in Kenya, this had to be a goal. It's only a top ten as we're not at all certain we'll be able to sign a strong African climber so there's a bit of insurance, but hopefully this will be a relatively straightforward one.

Win i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae328/JJagr/flags/WRL.png Africa Tour Standings

Finally, our standings goal is probably our most ambitious. Being an African team though we felt we had to aim for this, with the rewards for a top five not being as high as hoped. A win will be tough to achieve but with the right riders and a bit of luck on our home continent anything can happen. If we race everywhere and achieve a few good results anything is possible.

aidan - Thanks. Transfers will be very interesting for both of us, but hopefully our agreements will help is to avoid clashing too much. Smile

admir - Looking forward to seeing your team, should be a nice few riders in there from the Balkans. Good luck as well.

It wasn't planned for us to be so diverse, but I struggled a bit in transfers so had to go a bit further afield. Most of the non African riders will be on their way out, I'll have to see how my team shapes up. Good that you like it though Pfft

Pre-Renewals Targets

So, with the futures of our current riders released, we're now going to follow the trend of many other managers by stating our early targets for the upcoming transfer season. These could be changed after the new DB is released.

As you can see, there are quite a few riders we'd like. Some are higher priorities that others though. Of course this is subject to change.

Targets
Mwangi Samwel
Mujtaba Hussein
Hassen Ben Nasser
Damien Gaudin
Tsagbu Grmay
Salifo Bikienga
Natnael Berhane
Lotto Petrus

Fortunately regarding leaders we don't clash much. With other riders we have similar interest (as anyone would expect), but I guess we'll be able to work around that. I might just be interested in adding one or two riders to boost our TTT squad Smile

Other than that, I'm so impatient waiting for this new DB! I'm just rearing to see what the new FAs look like, I think you'd agree Grin

Kenya Airways interested in African talent Kudus?

www.capitaleritrea.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Merhawi-Kudus1-300x224.jpg

With the 2014 DB now out, we now have some more targets we know of that would be great additions to our team. With them being free agents, competition will be high but we feel that with these riders a great new season could beckon.

Top of our list is Merhawi Kudus, the Eritrean talent that could one day be one of the stars of African Cycling. We've decided to make him a priority in the upcoming transfer season, as we look to grow as an African team.

Known for his abilities on Mountains, we feel he as the potential to one day podium a grand tour, our long-term target. Therefore we've decided to make him one of our top priorities ahead of the upcoming transfer season! We'll see if we have the funds to attract him come the time.

I have a feeling you won't be the only one after Kudus. It will be interesting to see how high his wage goes given the large number of teams who will want him to ensure they can keep their regional focus.

He's basically my top target this year, I won't lie. I'll happily pay over 500k for him if need be! It'll be interesting to see who's interested, I don't think it will be like the Herklotz/Ewan battles though in terms of everyone wanting them.

Goals Announced

With transfers coming ever closer, the time has come for the team to select it's goals for the upcoming season. Here are the different places where the sponsor wants us to do well this year, a couple of which are quite ambitious. They have promised a decent transfer budget though, so hopefully these are achieveable.

Race Category Goal
La Tropicale Amissa Bongo C1 Win
Strade Bianchi HC Top 5
Tour of South Africa HC Top 5
Kenya Moutain Classic HC Top 10

So five interesting goals there for us I think. Only time will tell how they hold up, with us needing to sign the right riders in transfers. Some are quite accomplishable though, hopefully.

Nice goals. I like fact that it is Africa-based. They're all pretty realistic should you get that "top African puncheur". I can also see you winning the African Tour Smile

Unfortunately, due to our transfer targets we couldn't really choose African goals and had to choose races that suited us best. We'll still meet quite often I think, but not as much as I'd have liked Wink

And good luck with Kudus! He's a real beast. Rumour has it that the team from South Africa will prefer to have their money tied up in older, developed riders. Rumours... Pfft

Thanks! Wanted to keep it African, and it's convenient that there's some available Africans up to the task of achieving them. Hopefully the rider in question won't go too expensive, so we have a chance of completing the three hilly ones.

Kudus should be an interesting rider in transfers. I'm not sure who's going to be interested, so that should be a surprise. It would be great if you didn't go for him, I guess you already have Meintjes talents wise. We'll see Smile
