The PCT peloton ride out for the final time in 2013.

i.imgur.com/sFiK61Z.png

In the breakaway are two of the most promising riders in the next generation of Americans, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Ian Boswell and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Joseph Dombrowski.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-1.jpg

Also in the move are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Jonathon Dufrasnes, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Charalampas Kastrantas and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Félix Emilio Besada.

50km out, there is a very interesting move from i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Kai Reus. UPC need to go well to be sure of safety, and can't really do that by waiting for the finish. The Dutch time triallist takes about 18km to cross to the breakaway.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-2.jpg
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-3.jpg

At this stage the break lead by 2 minutes, but that gap is falling with Cisco, Vespa and Vueling working hard. In particular we see i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/cis_zpsa215ca85.png Taborre putting in a lot of effort.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-4.jpg

The peloton is down to 64, as they move within reach of the breakaway, on this penultimate lap.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-5.jpg

Just before the end of the penultimate lap, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/sbp_zpsa477b496.png Lovkvist attacks! He won this race while it was in the ProTour, which remains the Swede's biggest victory.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-6.jpg

That move could not be sustained, but now i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/cis_zpsa215ca85.png Efimkin launches a powerful effort going up the finishing straight.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-7.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/luk_zps37d4ab7e.png LukOil launch their relegation avoidance strategy with Karpets and Iglinski trying to follow. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Ben Nasser and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Froome also in the mix.

But only Efimkin gets clear, and he joins the breakaway. They take the second section of the main climb for the final time - as we are now on the final lap.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-8.jpg

Over the top, a group of just 17 makes the junction to the Efimkin/Reus/Breakaway group.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-9.jpg

And these aren't the strongest 17 riders either! A number of team leaders have been caught out on the descent. One of the race favourites i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Nicolas Roche, Meiji leader i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/mei_zpsbbaf4141.png Tommy Zaini, Frenchman i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/rbc_zps9a8b3bfb.png Jeremy Roy, former winner i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/sbp_zpsa477b496.png Thomas Lovkvist, both Lukoil's leaders i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/luk_zps37d4ab7e.png Karpets and Iglinski all make up part of a 14 man chase group.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-10.jpg

Even worse news for i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/csc_zpsbdf7f4ce.png Team CSC-Orbea. Their leaders Costa and Barrio are even further back.

Hearing this on race radio, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Kai Reus puts in an attack! He made this split thanks to that mid-race attack, and UPC could now outscore CSC.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-11.jpg

But Froome tracks the move, and it does not get away. The 24 in this group then are:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/cis_zpsa215ca85.png Efimkin
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Kastrantas
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Boswell
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Froome
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Jiao, Besada
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Ben Nasser
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/sbp_zpsa477b496.png Hoogerland
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Gautier, Dufrasnes
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Reus
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Sinkewitz, Schreurs, Lebas
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Pellizotti, Dombrowski
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/tcs_zps625f9315.png Kolobnev
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Ginanni, Kelly, Krizek, Bono
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vwm_zps2ffcd386.png Flugel, Kessler, Preidler

But i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Roche has not given up, and is trying to ride across solo. That is Schreurs just in front of him, who surprisingly has been dropped.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-12.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/cis_zpsa215ca85.png Efimkin leads the race into the final 5km, he needs to be careful not to expend too much energy.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-13.jpg

Now i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Froome in the lead, the final climb is in sight.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-14.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/jag_zps1b91f70a.png Chris Froome opens up the sprint with 1.3km to go. Efimkin, Ginanni, Sinkewitz and Flugel all well placed.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-15.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Ginanni, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/cis_zpsa215ca85.png Efimkin and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vwm_zps2ffcd386.png Flugel along with Froome move away from the field as they take the flamme rouge.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-16.jpg

It is going to be between Ginanni and Flugel.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-17.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Francesco Ginanni wins the Japan Cup!

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-18.jpg

2nd place for Flugel, with Efimkin 3rd and Froome 4th.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Franco Pellizotti is a big surprise as he emerges in 5th position.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-19.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/vue_zps51fdf35e.png Sinkewitz, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/bps_zps2b426596.png Gautier and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/pvl_zps0bcc4e74.png Ben Nasser follow.

More surprise positions next though, as Irish Vespa domestique i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/var_zps06f2aa1f.png Kelly takes 9th, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Reus grabs a Top 10, and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/htc_zps6bfb639a.png Boswell is 11th despite being off the front all race. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Dombrowski also hung on well for 14th.

i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/az/jc-20.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ing_zps78b9af5e.png Roche caught the group in the final kilometre and manages to salvage 15th place - which is better than Tinkoff's i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/tcs_zps625f9315.png Kolobnev can manage, but probably not enough.
