Tour of Utah - Stage 4
Gustavovskiy
Time-trialing time again here in the USA

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4.jpg

Circa 20km of an up and down ITT which is set to prepare us for the more inclined stages. The gradient doesn’t go higher than 2% though until the intermediate point after which the riders face a nice descent.

First time of note comes from i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png James Lewis Perry SA’s TT champion

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-1.jpg

Unfortunately for him, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Miles Olman is just two men after him in the GC and takes 38’’ to his time. We might see some interesting gaps opening today…

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-2.jpg

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Daan Rijntjes has taken 2nd place in the checkpoint, can he prove to be faster than Olman? No he can’t. 16’’ is the difference which gives him provisional 2nd place.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-3.jpg

We’ve missed i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Rohan Dennis who has taken 3rd place at the finish. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Fonte is 9th at the checkpoint, what’s going to be his final time… 3rd, 30’’ slower than Olman.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-4.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.png Sebright was losing 20’’ earlier, but he looks faster now. He dethrones Fonte of his podium place having wasted 26’’ more than Olman.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-5.jpg

Can i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Athanasiades recover a podium spot for Privatbank? 28’’ deficit gives him only 4th place at the moment.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-6.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Goddaert’s turn now, he was one of the best at the intermediate point, and with 12’’ more than Olman he can be proud of his provisional 2nd.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-7.jpg

But look who comes after him. It’s i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Ford! He already has the best checkpoint time with 13’40, can he strengthen Oz’s chances here? Hell yeah, 26’41, 11’’ faster than his mate Olman.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-8.jpg

Gazelle try again with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Westra who has already overtaken Tzortzakis and made quite and impression at the mid-stage check. But his time is only good to make him the best non-Oz rider so far 22’’ down on the leader.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-9.jpg

i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Martinez is probably out of GC contention now but he may well be looking to improve his form today. His time is only good for 8th place 37’’ slower than the leader. Meanwhile his team mate i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Gdhamsi has taken fourth place 22’’ away from the leading time.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-10.jpg

It takes long time before someone of note starts his TT. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mcc_zpse0e8a92e.png Silva could be an interesting bet but he’s just not among the best today

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-11.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Rohregger’s TV time has arrived, and everybody is waiting to see what he can do today. He should be able to distance riders like Moreno while limiting losses to Larsson. His team manager breathes a sight of both relief and surprise as he sees the Austrian clock the 3rd best time so far today, 15’’ off the pace, only losing time to the Australians.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-12.jpg

Last chance for Privatbank to make a stand today is named i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Mykhaylo Kononenko. The Ukrainian is a fair all-rounder and at this point a top5 candidate at least. Having used 25’’ more than Ford he’ll occupy 7th place

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-13.jpg

With almost all GC candidates on the road or having already finished let’s have a look at the time differences between the ones we haven’t been able to follow on the road:

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Craig Lewis+ 48
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Rafael Reis+ 49
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mcc_zpse0e8a92e.png Maky Roman+ 52

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Julián Rodas+ 59
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mcc_zpse0e8a92e.png Daniel Eduardo Silva+ 1'08
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/fcb_zpse1da305d.png Eduardo Gonzalo+ 1'20
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Daniel Moreno+ 1'22
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Thiago Duarte Nardin+ 1'35
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png João Cabreira+ 1'50

Tough day for some of these guys.

But there’s still i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/vtf_zps1d97281a.png Gustav Larsson to add to the equation. The swede is quite an eclectic sportsman and will want to put in some time between him and Rohregger, but with the Austrian having such good legs today he may even risk losing time today. Shocked faces around i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png OzCycling’s bus as they look at the time of the Swedish TT champion of 26’34, 7 seconds faster than Ford!!

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-14.jpg

And with that plot twist we just need to wait for the late finishers. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.png Keough being the last of them and predictably not even being close to maintaining his yellow jersey.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta4-15.jpg

We end this broadcast with news of yet another GC leader. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/vtf_zps1d97281a.png Gustav Larsson is his name. He also shares the Points classification lead with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Ford now. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Gazelle is now the best team, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Fabio Silvestre adds the U25 classification to his KoM leadership
