Tour of Utah - Stage 2
Gustavovskiy
After the prologue we meet the sprinters today. Despite the 3 climbs today the stage is considered to be flat and proper for a sprinter showdown. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Ford is the leader. Can any of the fast guys grab enough bonus time to take the yellow? We’ll see about that

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2.jpg

Lots of interest in the first breakaway of this race. The group that sticks is composed of 5 men. They are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Silvestre, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Hugentobler, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bvp_zps98bbf78a.png Sparling, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Tankink and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Beyer. The Portuguese is both the fastest and the best well-positioned of them

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-1.jpg

At the first sprint i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Silvestre naturally takes honours in front of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Beyer and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bvp_zps98bbf78a.png Sparling. They have built a 4min advantage.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-2.jpg

As we enter the first categorized climb of the day the difference has been reduced to 2min. The ones doing the chasing are i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Ford’s teammates.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-3.jpg

Despite some attacks the break crests the first summit in a pretty organized fashion lead again by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Silvestre. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Tankink and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Beyer pass next to him. Gap is 2’24

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-4.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Silvestre takes yet another mid-stage prime. The KoM jersey is probably going to be his for tomorrow. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Hugentobler is 2nd and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Tankink 3rd.

The pack gets a bit disorganized in this last climb. There were no falls or punctures so we’re bound to conclude that this is due to pure lack of strength. The gaps look big enough to create some concern in the teams’ cars but it’s tough to analyse the race at this point.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-5.jpg

Sprint#2
1st. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Beyer
2nd. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Silvestre
3rd. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Hugentobler

As we start climbing for the last KoM prime of the day the pack has a 1’56 deficit and is lead by i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Gdhamsi. The yellow jersey is here.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-6.jpg

A second huge group has just rejoined and now we have a 25men group led by Privatbank who has i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Fonte, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Athanasiades and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Tanovithcii doing the work. Guess who else? Yes you’re right i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Maksimov along with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Renshaw and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Gaywood.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-7.jpg

KoM#3
1st. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Beyer
2nd. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Hugentobler
3rd. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/aip_zps544721ca.png Silvestre
Gap sits around 2’30. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bvp_zps98bbf78a.png Sparling is in difficulties

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-8.jpg

20km to the finish and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Maksimov’s group has been dropped again. Not only him but also the yellow jersey wearer is finding some difficulties in coping with the pack’s speed at this point.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-9.jpg

And with 15km to go the race leader is caught by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Privatbank’s locomotive. They have almost 3min deficit to the bunch! Also i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Goddaert is here. Up front the escapees still have 1’40. It’s going to be touch and go for them.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-10.jpg

Crash!! i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Oram, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Perry, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png O’Shea, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/rbc_zps9a8b3bfb.png Tzortzakis, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/fcb_zpse1da305d.png Bartl, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Othamn and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png Astarloza hit the deck! I thought this stage was supposed to be boring…

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-11.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/wwe_zpsb6c72e16.png WWE drop back to help their leader. They are all taken by the Yellow jersey group who seems to have given in.

With 10km to go. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Iberia make the junction up ahead. Mass sprint it is.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-12.jpg

Iberia are the only ones making a train. Everyone else follows them. We have:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Gallego
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Moreno
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Lay
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.png Keough
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Speirs

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Cardoso
And then a blob made of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/src_zps90f6d964.png Keisse, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/vtf_zps1d97281a.png Crespo, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mcc_zpse0e8a92e.png Ciocan, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bvp_zps98bbf78a.png Thomas, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Ben Youcef, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/rbc_zps9a8b3bfb.png Soupe and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Renshaw.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-13.jpg

As i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Gallego peels off, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Moreno launches himself in kamikaze style!

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-14.jpg

We pass the kite and everyone else starts sprinting as well. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Moreno still holds a good gap but he has i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Cardoso, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/rbc_zps9a8b3bfb.png Soupe, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mcc_zpse0e8a92e.png Ciocan, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/amx_zps91aadbbd.png Keough and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Nardin on his heels. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Lay has completely backfired.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-15.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Moreno can already see the line but the gap is reducing at every meter…

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-16.jpg

And it’s i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/rbc_zps9a8b3bfb.png Soupe who takes it!!! i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Moreno just got swallowed in the final meters, what a let down for his team. On the other hand massive effort by the French to take the first flat stage here in Utah.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-17.jpg

Oh and what’s this?!It looks like we had a late crash by i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/gzl_zps14c119b5.png Lieuwe Westra! Gazelle’s leader may have seen his GC aspirations crushed here. He loses more than 3min to the bunch!

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/utah/uta2-18.jpg

With this triumph we see i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/rbc_zps9a8b3bfb.png Soupe take not only the stage but also the yellow and white jerseys. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ozc_zps749fc2f0.png Ford retains the points classification, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Silvestre moves into the polka dot kit and i1248.photobucket.com/albums/hh498/Hiiam2412/Barclayskenmicro_zps52dc0de5.png Kenya Airways take the team’s overall. See ya tomorrow.
