Clasico RCN - Stage 8
Smowz
i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/h1_zps07c932ef.jpg

The final stage that is described as a hill top finish which looks suspiciously like a mountain!

If Arroyo might fear the shorter climb he can breathe easy with a decent amount of daylight between himself and Rohregger and Moreno.

Two Canadians go off in the breakaway namely Sparling (Boeing) and Boivin (Alstom)

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/h2_zpsbd8f8e4b.jpg

These two are swept up with 15km left and Iberia are in a determined mood today as Moreno launches a big attack with 7km to go.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/h3_zps01578316.jpg

Arroyo (Die Berg), Menchov(Barcelona) , Eibegger and Rohregger (both Magna) respond to this and it is down to MTN to chase this down.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/h4_zps6619bdff.jpg

Good work from MTN as the catch is made with 4.5km left - however another Iberia rider attacks in the blur.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/h5_zps693ea878.jpg

It's a lesser spotted Sammy Sanchez, who has barely been seen so far.

Die Berg chase this through De Weert just ahead of race leader Arroyo.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/h6_zpsed1e5c38.jpg

For once Arroyo can use a teammate to launcg his move with just under 1.3km to go.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/h7_zpsb2656b25.jpg

However this time Arroyo has attacked too late to take the stage win as Samu takes the win for Iberia their fourth of the race.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/j8_zps7bceb735.jpg

Arroyo takes second and nabs the KoM jersey by result of doing so with Points jersey winner and Clasico runner up Moreno finishing 3rd just ahead of De Weert.

Stage results
Rohregger finished in a large group of GC riders some 28 seconds behind Moreno and De Weert. This also contained Menchov and the two Colombians Roman and Rodas who have had a decent race.

GC
He took three mountain stages and almost this one, no doubt about the winner here and the best climber in the C2 ranks. David Arroyo. That said Moreno could well finish ahead of him in the individual rankings.

The rider with by far the highest wage takes the Youth title. Ihlenfeldt perhaps a slight surprise in second.

Teams
Been a ding dong battle all the way through for the teams. BCR had a bad day, meaning Barcelona take the only team ranking to matter the final one. Once again Iberia make huge gains, they won four stages here - but for one tactical blunder they could have won this too.
