Clasico RCN - Stage 7
Smowz
i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g1_zps0e437019.jpg

The queen stage of the Clasico finishes up a steep mountain just outside Medellin. It is hard to see Arroyo being beaten given his previous two mountain stage wins but Moreno is just 8 seconds behind him.

We tune in with just 10km to go to the top of the days first major climb. Tankirk (WWE) and Roth (Alstom) have dominated the day going in a break for mountains points. The duo manage to share out the points to take the joint overal mountains lead.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g2_zpsfd3be37f.jpg

They get caught on the descent with the intermediate taken out by Gottfried (WWE) over Eibegger (Magna) and Cano (BCR).

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g3_zpsc897c8c8.jpg

All 75 riders are still together at the foot of our final climb, nethertheless Dombrowski sets off in attack early.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g4_zps0d30af6e.jpg

This tactic didn't work out brilliantly on the last mountain stage but it did drop his main youth jersey rival Rojas Villegas(BCR). That said Ihlenfeldt (MTN) moved closer to him that day.

Today Dombrowski is really holding out well and with 5km of climbing left behind him the previously full peloton has been decimated.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g5_zpsf76c1ddf.jpg

Arroyo leads the chase group. Also there are:
Calzati, Menchov (WWE) Naibo, Rohregger (Magna), Perez Sanchez, Moreno (Iberia), Salas (Alstom), Rojas Villegas (BCR) and Rodas (MTN)

Esquival(BCR), Georgiev (Boeing), Roman (Mobil) and Ihlenfeldt(MTN) are further back.

Arroyo is doing it solo again today and he powers across to the young pretender dragging Moreno, Menchov and Rohregger with him.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g6_zps72d4db00.jpg

2km left and Moreno/Rohregger cannot hold Arroyo with Menchov and Dombrowski now rocking behind these two.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g7_zpsb3867284.jpg

Rodas has kicked on behind he needs to try and hunt down Menchov, Roman having caught the chase group is also kicking on.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g8_zpsed2cda75.jpg

As this climb enters its last kilometer we can see Arroyo is really stretching it out as we can see over the city of Medellin.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g9_zps3bade195.jpg

He secures the win, his third of the race and secures a likely GC win as he secures a sizable 1.13 gap on everyone.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/g10_zpsef722ea0.jpg

Rohregger outkicks Moreno for second, possibly keeping open the the battle for 2nd and 3rd. Menchov clings with these two and gets a gap of over a minute on Rodas. Dombrowski holds onto 5th, his early attack tactic paying off somewhat today.

Stage results
Plenty of gaps today, the star European four put the Americas riders to the sword really.

GC
The slightest doubt over Arroyo's GC win are surely extinguished with his third stage win of the race. Rohregger looks more of a danger to Moreno, Moreno though looks set for a podium which will pull him near the top of the C2 individual rankings. Behind Menchov claws his way past the best Colombian rider Rodas. Dombrowski is will inside the top ten now.

Teams
BCR's dual leaders manage with the help of Colex to move to the head of the team rankings. Barcelona may prefer the slightly easier stage tomorrow though. Iberia had a better overall stage there too as they continue to claw back time lost when they waited for Anton Martin.
