Clasico RCN - Stage 5
Smowz
i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e1_zps0402873e.jpg

Another long Colombian climbing special today - longer than stage 3's slog but not as long as stage 6's ridiculous 60km uphill monster.

David Arroyo will be the one to mark today, can Moreno or Rohregger or someone else hurt him and his relatively weak Die Berg team.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e2_zps1875dd01.jpg

No real enthusiasm for an early break today, Ryan Roth (Alstom) decides to get his face on TV going solo.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e3_zps122e9973.jpg

No riders are really bothered by the the intermediate sprints with Gottfried (WWE) going for both and Eibegger (Magna) going for the first.

Roth holds just 2.30 going into the first category climb before the stages long final climb.

Roth holds steady and as we approach the top Asterloza (WWE) attacks the Die Berg led pack.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e4_zpsaa7e5095.jpg

He, Ihlenfeldt (MTN), Mora (Mobil) and Colex (BCR) bridge across however Die Berg lift the pace and bring it all back together.

This only encourages more attacks as we get onto the final climb proper Roman (Mobil) and Dombrowski (WWE).

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e5_zps2828d4f8.jpg

Eventually a five man power group emerges of Roman (Mobil), Moreno (Iberia), Dombrowski (WWE), Arroyo (Die Berg) and Rohregger (Magna).

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e6_zps784b2dd8.jpg

There are six chasers:
Rodas (MTN), Georgiev (Boeing), Salas (Alstom), Menchov (Barcelona), Ihlenfeldt (MTN) and Esquival (BCR).

Everyone else including current best young rider Rojas Villegas are being distanced.

Arroyo starts to crank things up in the last 7.5km, dropping earlier attackers Dombrowski and Roman.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e7_zpse1433797.jpg

As these two slip back, Moreno and Rohregger grit their teeth to try and stick on Arroyo's wheel.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e8_zpsa52d9433.jpg

Seeing opportunity to go up in the minor placings Rodas and Esquival attack out of the chase group.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e9_zps9d17e2b1.jpg

We approach the finish line and it appears as if Arroyo has burnt off Moreno's and Rohregger's kick.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e10_zps0c5c8d3a.jpg

He doesn't get the time gap today but must be relieved that he was able to get the win over Moreno in particular who could have snatched back the leaders jersey.

i187.photobucket.com/albums/x62/Smowz/Saxobank%20pcm%20story/e11_zps88e865ad.jpg

So Arroyo, Moreno and Rohregger finish on the same time, Rodas manages to finish 40 seconds later 13 second ahead of Menchov, Esquival and Georgiev.
