The Time Trial can hardly be called a contest as Paolo Savoldelli cruised to victory - he even caught and passed Danilo di Luca!!

RR
A hilly rating for the mostly flat course. The ending should provide the drama.
A break of 13 forms and looking at the make up of it, it could be ominous. 3 Gazetta riders, 2 Flogas riders, 2 Fed-Ex riders and most of the big teams all represented.
With 45km to go to the front end of the peleton reaches the start of the hills, 7'32 behind the leaders. The likes of Ricco, Ballan and Pozzatto have already been dropped.
Di Luca and Rebellin have soon ridden away from the peleton but refuse to work with each other.
After 2 of the main 3 steep climbs, 13 has become 6.
Mori, Quinziato, Sacchi, Commesso, Corioni and Maisto.
6 soon becomes 4 as they head towards the final ascent.
Onto the final hill, Rebellin gets away from Di Luca but both are caught. Rebellin is seen at the front urging the rest of the riders to help chase the break.
Up in the break, Maisto has been dropped and then Sacchi and Quinziato put in an attack that gets rid of Mori.
But Mori riders the descent very hard and catches up in time for the sprint.
But as quickly as he caught them, Mori soon explodes and falls away again. Its Sacchi v Quinziato.
And its no contest whatsoever, Sacchi is the new Italian champion!
Quinziato takes 2nd, while Corioni comes through for 3rd.
Maisto and Napolitano from the breakaway lead home the first group to contain pre-race favourites, Bettini, Pellizotti and Nocentini.
Cunego is behind this group and Di Luca is even further back, finishing with Rebellin. He looks in poor form ahead of the Worlds and Lombardia.
