Carrefour enter cycling with high ambitions
Hypermarket giant Carrefour is the newest sponsor in international cycling and the concern wants their cycling team to be just as hyper and huge as they are. Money was not the issue when it came to putting the talent together necessary to make their sponsoring a brilliant succes.
They approached Laurent Jalabert to be the manager of the team, already in cohoots with co-sponsor O.N.C.E. at the time and promised him the budget he needed to attract some of the best French and Spanish cyclists to the Carrefour equipe. Even though l´Équipe reported that money was the issue with regards to Joaquim Rodriguez, who remains at Katusha.
So Jaja had to settle for Luis Leon Sanchez instead.
Nevertheless the Carrefour squad signed enough quality and paid the UCI enough cash to get a World Tour license, and together Carrefour and O.N.C.E. are absolutely set on becoming the absolute cream of tha crop in international cycling.
Team Goals:
this year:
WIN Paris - Roubaix (with Chavanel, Turgot or Gaudin)
Win at least one stage in the Tour, Vuelta and Giro
Good result in all the classics
French championships
Do well in Dauphiné and Paris-Nice
Be the best breakaway team in the ´Pro´ Tour
and probably: Top 10 Vuelta with Sanchez
Career goals:
Win the Tour de France
Win all the World Tour events at least once

Wait, what the hell is Freire doing in there? (or is this the 2012 DB?)
And always nice to see another story writer in the :12 section, and the team is very good indeed.

Dumoulin 2nd at Eneco?
Unless you play with a 2014 DB, that has to be wrong

Well I needed some Spanish ´stars´ and I figured Katusha wouldn´t miss him much
It is the 2012 DB but I changed a few things as well.
Like for instance I put Cavendish at QuickStep already. |

Oh, that's, ummh, interesting. The stats will be quite outdated too though, no?

@North
I know.
But how could he mention it when it's a 2012 DB, it hasn't happened yet in 2012 ;(
Bit strange that you did some 2014 transfers, while it's 2012, though...

I guess so, a little. But tbh I´m still editing (and have done a lot).
And if necessary will keep doing so as I´m progressing.
You won´t see a superstar riding for a Continental team in this career (if I get that far).
Also, it has always annoyed me when big contenders aren´t on the startlist for example. I will take care of that too (at least for the Tour de France, and hopefully, World Championships - haven´t found where that´s supposed to be in the database, as I have with regular races. But I did up the nationalism of almost all the best riders to get them to defend their national colors (that´s how I interpreted the function of nationalism in the db).
And yeah, I just think it´s more fun to have Cavendish at QS already, because of their focus on all those GC contenders. |

It´s a fantasy game. Carrefour and O.N.C.E. aren´t really giving me millions of euros either.
But just because my game is old doesn´t mean I don´t want some elements of realism to be up-to-date.
And yeah you´re right Guadin hadn´t actually been 5th in Roubaix yet at the time... but his skills will reflect that he did. He might actually better himself in the actual 2013 P-R not the actual but you know, in a Carrefour jersey, in this `story´. |
