Like most players I protect my main rider and best climber in the big mountain stages with two protecting riders, I also do this in long classic races as well.
But I have always thought should I do this in all the races that I race, or is this like cheating?
So how often do you guys use the rider protection option, often or just now and again? |

Always. Protecting my main sprinter (and even a leadout man sometimes) at FL stages, my first stage-racer at MO stages and my main puncheur in HI stages. Sometimes, i protect my race-leader in terrains where he isn't favourite, such as protecting Rodriguez on flat stage, just to keep him fresh for next stages.
And no, i don't think it's kind of cheat. Why it should be?

Hell I forgot, I also use it to protect my sprinter as well.
Maybe cheat was the wrong phrase to use, but sometimes I think are the computer controlled rivals using the same tactic or are their riders tiring quicker because they don't use this tactic, problem is I don't know enough about the game AI to say for certain. |

the AI does protect aswell, I normally protext my sprinter and leadout man on the flat, my GC guy and his super domestique in the mountains and my GC guy and Main Pucheur on hilly stages.

This all seems very sensible to me and good practice. |

In pcm11, not sure if its the same as 13 in that regard, the main sprinters always have a support rider in front of them.

That's impossible. You can only protect a rider with another rider. |

It's possible. You have A , B and C rider. A is protecting B and C is on "normal". Send A to take water bottles and quickly set C rider to protect B rider, as well (but do that quickly, before rider A brings water). After he finally gave all water bottles he's back to protecting rider B - you have 2 riders (A and C) protecting your leader. I hope you understood.
I am not sure how much this helps, but i saw somewhere that it helps. And of course, this is kind of trick or something called cheat, so...

Allright.
Though tbh, I do consider that cheating, since it's not the way the programmers were aiming for.
Normal protecting isn't cheating at all though, and I do that all the time

I always protect my leader, main team mate (lead out man/supporting climber) and sprinter. Although I only started protecting sprinters on mountain stages in PCM 2013 with the new recovery system. |

Yes, this is a game glitch, but Cyanide already posted that the protected rider will not profit from it. |

Yes but don't use it, as it's a cheat that would destroy any pleasure you'd get from the game. |

So if you had every available domestique in the team protecting the leader, he wouldn't be saving a whole load of energy? |
