An interesting cobbled one-day race in Bulgaria of all places. There are not overly many of the dreadded sections here, but those that are, will no doubt seperate the men and the mice.
Let's start with a home crowd-favourite. That's Grashev. He is not the strongest cobbler here under normal circumstances but racing in front of his own fans should be a very motivating, hence optimizing factor for the exciting Bulgarian.
Grashev is with the Bulgarian team Boeing-Viva here, but he will not be captain of the team. Geraint Thomas is the obvious pick here and he is among the very strongest in this semi-small peloton.
We have three five-star favourites here. Thomas is one of them and the two others will definitely be Nikolas Maes and Gert Steegmans. Maes might just be the most powerfull on the sketchy surfaces but lacks the finishing ability of Steegmans, which might just make the Belgian come away with the win here. Maes needs to create daylight before the final dash to the line if he wants to win. But if one could do it, this is your guy.
The outsiders are Vangenechten, Zepunkte and the reporter's favourite-due-to-nationally-bias, Østergaard.
Others could as always steal the picture and the cobbles are always a guarantee for spectacular.

I can obviously say this was a planning error. I think I ticked the wrong box/column when I filled in the excel file. Oh well, with no expectations I can't disappoint myself!

Forget the Tour of America, forget the Tour of Vancouver.... This is the big one boys! Home turf and our best surface. The route is perfect for the team and the entire crowd will be cheering the team onwards. This is also our biggest goal of the season because it is such a big race for the sponsors.
Without HTC and Bpost the pressure is on, and in previous .2 cobbles we've taken that and got some of our best results. We need to repeat those performances now and frankly go that one step further up the podium.
Anything less than a Podium is a failure, and anything less than a win is not a good result.
Come on boys! One last big push on the cobbles!

2 on the podium, 3 in the top 10, 6 in the top 15... Proof, ladies and gentleman, that BVP just cannot win!
Still i'll take it as a result as it's vastly better than almost every other race this season. Solid points haul from a C2 race that will help us a bit, but considering we missed our final season goal (thats now 0 from 5) just AARRRGGHHHH
Grashev was awesome though! Really spurred onwards by a huge home crows

Congratz to Steegmans and his team, brilliant victory.
Proud of Papok's display, in the early break and clings on close to the end to finish 7th, fantastic ride by him. He has been on of my few riders who has impressed this season!

My team was strong this time but Maes should have attacked at the long cobbles section. Altough the 4th place its good, because we have a top5 goal here, so well done
Final rankings wise BNCR got a 17 point advantage in the fight for the 5th place. So its up to Alsace vs. Classico RCN to decide |

Good race! Had hoped to see Boeing win their home race with my former rider G, but not to be. Still a good result for them - and don't worry Manx, missing a goal by 1 spot is still well rewarded.
Well done to dev4ever and BNCR. Steegmans could be hard to beat in the CT Individual standings now too, extending his lead

Great for BNCR and also a huge result for Boeing, even if it wasn't the win they wanted.

Can't say we didn't try! I expected a bit more from Chavanel here, but I'm happy with 5th.

Solid performance by Vangenechten. Attacked twice, got in the right break the second time and grabbed 5th. I'm content.
Congrats to BNCR and Boeing.
