Jelajah Malaysia - Stage 4
CountArach
i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-1.jpg

Yesterday saw an odd bunch sprint thanks in part to the category one climb that started the day off. Today should be much simpler. In fact cycling races rarely get simpler than what we have today – 100.7km of almost totally flat terrain. There are some small rises towards the finish and a descent that leads us down to the final 2km but nothing too complicated.

Our first attack of the day comes from i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bvp_zps98bbf78a.png Jonathon Tiernan-Locke, who was also in yesterday’s break.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-2.jpg

Several riders join him to form our break of the day:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Philip Lindau
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Zico Waeytens
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Michael Vink

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-3.jpg

These four work solidly throughout the day, keeping the pace high. They don’t contest the sprint points as they are all over 10 minutes down. Still, someone has to do the work to bring them back and after the gap reaches a maximum of 5’10” it is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png MTN and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Iberia who start to pull the bunch along a bit faster.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-4.jpg

The gap comes down steadily and with 20km remaining the four leaders have only 1’34” on the bunch. They continue to work well with no one putting in any attacks to try to get away. With 5km left they shake hands and accept that they are about to be caught.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-5.jpg

The descent starts shortly after this and today we have two sprint trains lining up. On the right:

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-6.jpg

With 2 kilometres to go i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Day launches his lead-out. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Morales does so at the same time and he ducks in behind i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah to try to draft off him.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-7.jpg

Under the kite i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah launches his sprint. The i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png BNCR train has dropped off slightly but there is a new threat – i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Jang has launched on the outside!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-8.jpg

With 300 metres to go i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Jang still has the lead and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen is coming up quickly from behind! Who will take this?

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-9.jpg

And it is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Cherif Abdallah who comes through to take the stage! This also gives him enough points to pull on the green jersey.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel4-10.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Jang holds on for a terrific second place with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen having to make do with third.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Speirs makes a late charge for fourth with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Murray taking fifth. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Ansons takes sixth while the next three riders are all from Iberia – i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Lay, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Moreno and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Anton Martin. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Renshaw rounds out the top ten.
