Jelajah Malaysia - Stage 1
CountArach
i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-1.jpg

After some great delays the first stage of the Jelajah Malaysia is ready to kick off. To serve as a reminder let’s have a look at some of today’s favourites:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Marco Guillén
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Saulo Lay
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Cherif Abdallah
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Oleksandr Polivoda
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Isaac Speirs

So without further ado, let’s get to the race! From the very start we have a number of riders looking to get away, with attacks from the following riders:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/reg_zpsf2e631b7.png Vegard Breen
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Charalampas Kastrantas
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Michael Vink
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/spr_zps39a3252c.png Gregory Hugentobler
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Chan Jae Jang
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bvp_zps98bbf78a.png Will Routley
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/ekc_zps98eb3bbc.png Philip Lindau

Of these only three riders get away:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/reg_zpsf2e631b7.png Vegard Breen
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Charalampas Kastrantas
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Michael Vink

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-2.jpg

Today we have only one mountain prime, which means that the winner will go straight into the jersey. All three of our break go for it, and there is a big battle amongst them but it is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Vink who takes the maximum of 5 points and the jersey. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Kastrantas comes in behind him with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/reg_zpsf2e631b7.png Breen the last of the trio. The gap here stands at 6’17” and the peloton aren’t showing any interest yet.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-3.jpg

In addition to the mountain prime that we have today there are three sprints on offer today. These could make a lot of difference if it comes down to a bunch sprint, as it will mean that the riders in the break only have to hold on to move up the GC. It is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Vink who takes the first ahead of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/reg_zpsf2e631b7.png Breen and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Kastrantas.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-4.jpg

The gap goes out to a maximum of just over 8 minutes and with 110km to go the break start working. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png MTN do quite a bit here with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/fcb_zpse1da305d.png Barcelona helping them.

The gap steadily winds down and in the meantime we have the two remaining sprint points for the break to contend with. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/reg_zpsf2e631b7.png Breen in fact wins both of them, with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Kastrantas in second and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Vink in third. So Breen has managed to take a superb 16 seconds in time bonuses. If he can hold on to the end of the stage he will spend the night as second place on GC.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-5.jpg

Fast forward now and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/reg_zpsf2e631b7.png Breen is the last of the breakaway riders to be caught with 6km remaining. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png MTN are doing almost everything on the front at the moment looking to set this up for the Egyptian champion i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-6.jpg

This is a bad time to puncture and that is exactly what happens to i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Colex. While he isn’t BNCR’s primary GC threat, he is certainly a rider capable of climbing with all but the very top riders and his time loss will probably cost BNCR some points.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-7.jpg

But there will be no slowing down as the bunch powers on to the finish line. Two sprint trains have formed. On the right we have:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Redecker
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Day
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Polivoda
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Sohrabi

On the left we have:
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Gallego
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Anton Martin
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Lay
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Avery
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Jang

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-8.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Sohrabi switches from the right hand train to the left one, slotting in behind i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Lay. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Petit are hanging around the tail of the right hand train but haven’t committed yet.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-9.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Day comes through as the final lead-out and puts in a huge effort, drawing i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Polivoda forward.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-10.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah goes for it, while i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Polivoda goes to his left! i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Sohrabi, meanwhile, has jumped from behind i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Lay and this has left i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Lay blocked in somewhat. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/ubi_zps47ce5481.png Gavazzi and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Speirs are coming up quickly from behind.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-11.jpg

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Polivoda comes past into first, but i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah still has speed and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Sohrabi is coming through faster! But i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Speirs is coming through faster than any of them on the wall.

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-12.jpg

But i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/pvb_zpsc75e654c.png Oleksandr Polivoda just holds on to take the victory!

i141.photobucket.com/albums/r44/CountArach/Man%20Game%202/Jel1-13.jpg

In second place it is i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/arm_zps60f3d6b6.png Sohrabi – a great performance for the Iranian. The late burst of i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mag_zpsa8a946c8.png Speirs gives him a place on the podium. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/mtn_zps3dcc4d70.png Abdallah had a great lead-out but couldn’t hold his speed to the line so takes fourth. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/icv_zps83bfa75e.png Lay was boxed in so could only manage fifth. Pre-stage favourite i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/bcr_zps86f2c872.png Guillen is a disappointing sixth. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/PCT/emt_zps170ae4bd.png Petit and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/jkp_zpsd1d2e7e2.png Jang take seventh and eighth with i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Avery and i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/cad_zps01f0e9d1.png Murray rounding out the top ten.

There are no time gaps for the bunch today and so young i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys/CT/reg_zpsf2e631b7.png Breen holds on for second place on GC and the young rider jersey.
