STAGE 1
ROUTE
A short prologue instead of a TTT.
RACE
The first rider to start is
Patrick Konrad from
Team Voralberg. His task here is to report the race, and thus he will finish last in the prologue.
The next rider is
Ivan Basso, riding in his traditional
Cannondale jersey. He sets a time of 8 minutes and 30 seconds.
Young Frenchman
Thibaut Pinot from
FDJ is next, and he shows that time trials are not his speciality.
Someone in the orange
Euskaltel jersey is also participating. No surprise, it's
Samuel Sanchez.
Michele Scarponi from
Team Lampre beats
Basso's time by 3 seconds.
Hey, a cyclist riding for
Team Cult Energy from Denmark. Who is this? It's
Jakob Fuglsang, riding in an other jersey than he's normally used to. He's 1 second slower as the Italian in pink.
Nicholas Roche also rides for a different team,
Rapha Condor-JTL.
Rui Costa rides for Portugese team
Efapel, and sets the fastest time so far. 8 minutes and 23 seconds.
It was a shock for
Cadel Evans when he heard that
BMC didn't want him. He has switched to
Drapac instead. And it might have been a good decision, because he's 1 second faster as
Costa.
Tejay van Garderen on the other hand was happy when
BMC told him to ride for them. He sets a very good time, 8 minutes and 16 seconds.
One of the 3 Colombians here is
Carlos Betancur, riding for
AG2R. His time-trial was quite disappointing.
And here's another Colombian.
Rigoberto Uran will ride for his future team,
Omega Pharma.
The Dutchies are represented here by
Bauke Mollema and
Belkin.
One of the big favourites for today's stage is
Bradley Wiggins in a
Node 4-Giordana jersey. And he does what is expected from him, the best time so far. 8 minutes and 13 seconds.
Jurgen van den Broeck from
Lotto-Belisol is next.
Canadian
Ryder Hesjedal from
Garmin is here as well. What can he do?
And here's grandpa.
Chris Horner from
RadioShack is old, but still very good.
Saxo-Tinkoff made a very suprising choice of rider. Not
Contador, but
Roman Kreuziger will be their rider.
And here's the Spaniard, riding for
Caja Rural.
Alberto Contador is 10 seconds slower as the current leader, which is still
Bradley Wiggins.
Orica-GreenEDGE does not have a good climber, so they borrowed
Richie Porte from
Sky. He's provisional third, 3 seconds behind.
Alejandro Valverde for
Team Movistar. What can he do in his home race?
Team Katusha has come here with
Joaquim Rodriguez. He's the slowest today (not counting
Konrad).
Nairo Quintana is the last Colombian, riding for the national team called
Colombia. He's one of the biggest favourites for the red jersey.
The Shark,
Vincenzo Nibali from
Astana, is also a serious contender.
But the biggest favourite is
Chris Froome from
Sky. But, he is 2 seconds slower as
Wiggins, who is the winner of the first stage.
