How long are your careers in PCM 2013 (and even in other editions) ?
Even if I start several careers (about 4), I must admit that only one is THE career that I play the most. And I observed that the lengths of this career is about 10 seasons (the one in PCM 2012 ended in 2021 and this one from 2013 is in 2022 and I don’t think it will keep any longer). After 10 seasons it seems very difficult to keep up with the motivation (you win almost all of your favorite races) and the saves are bigger and bigger, you wait longer and longer to see a rider history.
So how about you ?

Just because you get through 10 seasons doesn't mean you win everything!!!! No doubt, you win everything because you have some pretty good riders at your disposal!!! (I'm sure if you wanted to you could have a team of underdogs in 2020 etc)
I don't have PCM2013 but here are some tactics I have found useful for enjoying PCM as the seasons go on:
--- Add custom nations/ new scoutable countries (Any Pacific Island as an example)
--- Add a 'continental team' to support your team
--- Rearrange the calendar
--- Add new races
--- Add some of your favourite jerseys to new teams.

I don't have the motivation for a long career most of the time. Longest in PCM13 so far lasted a season. Longest of all time lasted 5 seasons

Best way to keep the motivation several seasons in: Don't overpower your team! Simples...
Not sure of my longest career. Either on PCM10 or PCM11. PCM10 was an overpowered (oh god was it overpowered!) team that i just won pretty much everything with for 5-6 seasons. This was my first PCM game and i knew little about it and fairly little about cycling in general at that time.
PCM11 was a nice 5-6 season game building up a custom American PCT team finishing off with a great final season where i finally bagged a TDF GC win with a self grown talent.

Well, my longest career lasted 4 (PCM 2010) years and it was with really great team. Motivation is the key. Lack of motivation is result for all of these stories started/stopped. I mean i'll have to play this game much more now and focus on my current career (Sky - Extreme) and hopefully i'll try to get some motivation for it.
Longest PCM 2013 career lasted 2 years. It was actually Radenska (i continued after stopping the story). |

My longest game was on PCM 12 I think with Euskaltel, last 3 seasons. Enjoyed relative success with Sanchez and Anton. Ruined it when Sanchez left the team and I bought Andy Schleck. Ruined the Basque culture.
I haven't got past May on PCM 13 yet but I haven't played it a lot. Currently on a Sky save.

It's quite strange Ste117, in 2 days, both of us posted in same 2 threads, 2 careers with 2 same teams. |

Never got past the first Giro I think I always book too many races. Actually, I did get to Season 2 (and still going) with Fabio Melani. But that's 'cause I didn't join any sprinting races (no win-capable sprinter on the team) and I simmed all of the races Fabio wasn't in. Also I was bankrupt during transfers so I didn't get much fun out of those

The Rider you gave some great advices and I want to thank you. But taking your advices one by one :
--- Add custom nations/ new scoutable countries (Any Pacific Island as an example) - great idea, but I don't know how.
--- Add a 'continental team' to support your team - what do you mean ?
--- Rearrange the calendar - it is possible ?
--- Add new races - idem
--- Add some of your favourite jerseys to new teams. - That sounds nice .

--- Rearrange the calendar - if you do it in the off season, it's possible

Thanks LLDS and thanks to Dippofix you just cleared most things up.
Also:
Add custom nations - This can be done but you have to edit a lot of stuff in the editor as well as adding regen files for the names. From my experience you should overwrite an existing country in the database to get it to work (ie Liechtenstein, Albania). As it doesn't seem to work for me by just adding a new field into the the editor. (There might be a limit on a number of scoutable places so watch out for that as well).
...... Any country which isn't in the database I guess. Or you could add a 'disputed country/terrain' such as Tibet, Kosovo or South Ossetia.
rearrange the calender - As long as you make sure everything is correct (Mainly the date of the race) and you do the changes between 26 October and 31st December everything should work out. But be weary of changing the WT race dates (w/variants) as they may crash if changed. eg I once tried deleting the tour of Catalunya altogether but that crashed the game.
Add new races - You know, just add in any race which isn't already in the database.
Add a continental team - Starting from scratch just program a new team into the game at the end of the season. Make sure you add contracts to the riders you want in the team and use your imagination.

This'll sound ridiculous, but it worked really well for me, so hear me out...
M top tip for winning and lasting is this, don't sign any riders from other teams
I got to 2018, only stopped with technical issues, doing this. It brought me great satisfaction to predict the good riders (sack the bad ones) and then nurture them through their careers and as they progress. It's actually more fun like this if you play with a high evolution of attributes.
Don't get me wrong though, this by no means makes you a feeder team. I stayed in WT the whole time, and even won 10+ GTs, 1 Ronde and 2 LBLs. It is a really awesome feeling if you win the Vuelta, knowing your entire team qualifies for the young rider rankings These riders can become legends and even develop a special 'relationship' if you grow with them their whole career, then uh, if they move, there's always the editor
I don't know if this works for everyone, but I found it the best. In fact, I've never transferred anyone in in any career!!!! |

I always play with same team through out the whole game, this year as always I chose to start a custom team.
It really motivates to build a up a team from scratch, and then slowly develop the team. My team is a spanish team (Telefonica), with riders from Spain, France, Italy and Columbia. 95% of the riders I sign are u23 riders, I really enjoy the talent development too, so it is pretty obvious that my team is a talent team.
I'm about to enter 2020 with the team, and the talents I've trained for years are finally starting to perform on the highest level. Best result for the team so far, is a 2nd place in the GC, in Vuelta a España with team captain Hector Garcia Sánchez

I always make my longest careers with actually following one rider.
Changing team with that rider can make you feel like starting all over and get motivated all over when things get in a rut
And, of course, building a (legendary) palmares is just great. Over time seeing your rider's name appear on those records |

PCM needs a lot of work on areas of the management side - like on the contracts and signing of riders for new seasons. I find it to be just too much of a lottery, as well as the sponsor negotiations. I've had a great 2013 with Europcar and are on my way to the World Tour. But I've screwed up my recruitment. So it's reduced my enthusiasm for the 2014 season.
The devs can learn so much from Football Manager, which has honed the art of sports management brilliantly over 20 years. I don't know why Cyanide don't just shamefully nick some of the little features of the game (which are common to cycling and football). Also, work on the rider morale is needed. |

@ The Rider - Thanks. As you said, when changing something there are several possible problems which may cause the game to crash.
Rearraging the calendar and adding new races I think is too risky. But I would add a new nation, I will try.
What do you mean by adding a continental team ? Is like managing two teams at the same time ?

No, unfortunately, unlike FM and a few other games, team links don't really exist. You could limit yourself to signing riders from that team though and try and use it, or alternatively you could manage the development team and try and get riders into the A-Team |
