17 laps of 12 or so kilometers around the streets of Montreal each going up the climb that gives this French Canadian city it's name.
The 2km 7% drag up Mont Royal in itself one time is not the problem it is the repeated climbing of it that should wear the riders down to a tough finish. That said with the finish set 8km after the summit of the last crest it will be expected that either good tactics or a decent sprint is needed to win this.
Last years winner Ben Nasser returns with his fading Pivorvarna Lasco squad. This year's field is possibly a little easier with the likes of Valverde, Claeys and Di Maggio in the Protour and Flugel not here. The fancy appears to be a small group sprint with Bellis (Rothaus) and recent Tour of Britain winner Ventoso (Prio Porto) likely to be favoured by this.
Roche (ING), Kolobnev (Tinkoff) and Gautier (Bpost) will all be looking for a high placing to continue there teams promotion push.
It should be an open race however with strong contenders from all the PCT teams apart from perhaps Repsol. Young Brit Dowsett had a torrid home tour recently but he is all fit and raring to go here. Old timers Wegmann (SRAM), Barredo (AMEX), Pineau (WWE) and experienced European riders like Roy (Alstom), Taborre (Cisco), Proni (Hollister), Cataldo (Vespa) and Reimer (Vueling) all have decent chances of being near the podium.
In addition to the 16 PCT teams we have 4 CTour teams here, though with the depth of the field ahead of them they will be hard pressed to make much of an impact.

You ignored Geschke here after his uebec performance.
A 1-2 is obvious.
Podium is wanted though. |

I have to say I'm pretty satisfied we'll get Smowz to report this race. He typically finds good words to go along with Ventoso's victories so there's that
Anyway as roturn, I also would like a podium here.

Very limited expectations for this one, though I could say much the same for the one before where we managed to grab a great victory.
I'd like a day out in the break, and i'm always a fan of surprises!

Would have hoped for more from Dowsett, but tough after missing the front group.
Prio just keep on scoring. That will probably see them up to 5th. They've hit momentum too late to grab an automatic promotion spot I suspect, but it has still been a significant jump up from last season.

3rd is fine for me even though Bpost and Prio Porto seem to take far more points in the late season.
Unfortunately Geschke is not scoring in the hilly stages. The actual hilly stages with flat profile are much more suited for him as he isn`t positioning himself in races like Montreal. |

Ventoso is everywhere! And his bank account will fill up nicely.
On another note, mostly high ranked teams score a lot of points.

Pivovarna Lasko's performance is pretty noteworthy in the relegation battle though - 2nd and 7th means a big haul of 84 points. Prior to this race they were projected to be right on the borderline, but this has boosted them

Well, Nice effort from Waeytens. Going to miss his attacking spirit next year when he goes back to his team. Expected nothing, got 20th. Fair enough. Roll on to the next race.

Great victory, thanks everyone. 1st and 4th is huge for us.
Mendes makes 4th to make this a great race for the on fire Prio Porto squad (at least with this reporter!)
Ahahaha. Smowz you know you can count on your bottle of champagne any time you visit the team bus. Now you've officially become my fetish reporter

Jaguar has been facing a rough time in the last few races. A shame, given the uniqueness of your team.

I'm glad you pointed that out. It's good to see all my shouting in the first half of the season worked well on him, but come the renewals I suspect the shouting will have the opposite direction.

11th will have to do but once again I'm disappointed in Gautier's sprint. Last season he had a great kick out of groups of this size but this season he seems to lack any sort of sprint at all.
Congrats to Prio. Could this be a three way promotion contest?
