I am interested in giving stage building a go, but before I get too involved have a few basic questions.
Just to let you know, I do have some experience of working with graphics. I have been involved with M$ Flight Sim in the past, painting aircraft and getting involved in scenery design, 3d object design and placement etc.

I wish to design 3d objects for stages sympathetic with the realworld.

What is the best software for 3d object design for PCM07 ?
I have used GMax in the past but could probably adapt to 3dMax or something.

Where do you put the finished objects?

That will do for now, perhaps Roadie68 or somebody with experience will read this?

I don't know anything about it, but Miya, the greatest of them all, has said these things which might help you:

It is a very good news those who are interested in a making of an Isolated Buildings for PCM2.

I found that gmax(free 3d application) can import & export .nif file now.
of course, you need niftools-plug ins for importing & exporting.

I had a simple test and succseeded to make a simple box with UVWunwrap mapping with gmax and exported into NIF SKOPE, then made some settings and put into PCM2.(for PCM3: I've not tested yet)

I think there are many tutorial for gmax on WEB.
It is a worth to trying.

gmax download:

niftools max plugins 0.2.15.1.exe is needed.

I read this tutorial also.

Thank you all for your comment !

This is a very big news for 3D creation in the game play!!
the latast version of NIF SKOPE plug-ins for 3dsMAX(maybe for g-max too soon) suport PCM ! :cheering:

It is easy to import & export .nif file, only one click !
It still have a shading bug. but for me, on example.
import cow.nif to MAX and add some remodeling, then export.
add the data to some stage with StageEditor and play 3dgame in PCM3.
believe or not, it's only 5 minutes to realize ! It's great ! :lolcry:

I think the shading bug might be fixed soon !
so you don't have to ask and wait me to make 3d stuff like an Isolated building any more, many user can make easily soon !

It will be a big revolution for PCM. Shock

EDIT:
I found the solution for a shading bug !
so, this is the time you make 3d stuffs (maybe an Isolated building only now). NIF SKOPE is great !
(of course, you need 3dsMAX first, for g-max I've not tested yet)

Woh! That is almost impossible ! I'm not a cyanide man.
this new plug-ins is good to make an Isolated building right now.
I think many people want to make them.

It is a another good news that g-max is supported by new plug-ins too!

I made a screen caputured movie.
you can see all of the procedure how to re-model cow.nif for PCM3 with g-max.(for 3dsMAX it's a same procedure)
of course, it's including how to fix the shading bug(black-colored) of NIF plug-ins (it's a kind of trick, save, open and save again).
There is no secret of NIF settings in this movie !

Actually, nif setting was too complicate before, so for me, too hard to
explain these skills.
This time, just watch this movie. maybe it is enough to learn.
(sorry, there are some japanese charactors included)

again, NIF SKOPE is great !!

Thanks Crue true, helpful link there. Looks like I will have to get Gmax again as I uninstalled some time ago.

roadie
Reap,
finished 3D objects are located in Isolated Buildings folder, always found in Blocs/ in any of the current versions of PCM.
If you want to create basic 3D then GMAX is a good start. If you're proficient enough then by all means use 3D Studio Max, MAYA or Lightwave. Most now have Plugins that will allow you to import .obj formats and convert to .nif. Also import .nif , change, add etc and then export.
Many of the links you need are provided by Crue. If you need more information, feel free to message me...

Hope this helps
